You can easily make professional-looking gift baskets filled with homemade chocolate candy treats for the chocolate lovers on your gift list. These delectable, melt-in-your mouth chocolate candies are much better than typical store-bought candies. They are made with ingredients that are rich in flavor and simply heavenly.
Before making the chocolate candy, you must first choose a gift basket. Gift baskets don¡¯t have to be expensive and ornate. You can easily embellish an inexpensive basket to make it look like a top-quality designer basket. Inexpensive baskets are available at most discount stores, and can often be found at second-hand shops, flea markets, and yard sales.
To embellish a plain, wooden basket you will need 1/8 inch wide satin ribbon in a color of your choice, a hot glue gun, and faux gemstones or decorative beads. Small iridescent pearls are an excellent choice.
Begin by weaving satin ribbon of your choice through the wooden slats of the basket. Weave the ribbon around the top edge, center, or the bottom portion of the basket. You can also weave or wrap ribbon around the handle if desired. Next, you can glue faux gemstones or decorative colored beads around the perimeter of the basket or you can randomly glue the embellishments to the outside surface of the basket. Use your imagination to create a beautiful basket worthy of holding delicious chocolate candy.
The following chocolate candy recipes are very easy to make but extraordinarily delicious. They will keep for an extended length of time when stored in a cool location, and they will greatly impress any chocolate lover who receives them.
Colorful Chocolate Candy Bars
1-12 ounce package milk chocolate chips
2 cups miniature colored marshmallows
2/3 cup gumdrops
? cup chopped peanuts
Melt the milk chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl according to your microwave directions. Stir the chips when they are halfway melted, and again when they are fully melted. If necessary, cut the miniature marshmallows in half, and cut the gumdrops into small pieces. Spread all but 1/4 of the melted chocolate on a large baking sheet covered with waxed paper. Sprinkle the melted chocolate with marshmallows, peanuts, gumdrops. Drizzle the rest of the melted chocolate over the top. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator until the chocolate has hardened. Cut the chocolate candy into bite-size bars. Store the candy in a cool location.
Optionally you can melt white chocolate chips, and drizzle them over the top of the chocolate candy-covered base. Just use 9 ounces of milk chocolate chips for the base, and 3 ounces of melted white chips for the top.
Chocolate Cream Drops
2 tablespoons strong coffee
4 squares semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup light cream
? cup real butter
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
? cup powdered sugar
? cup chopped peanuts, optional
Shredded coconut, optional
Melt the chocolate according to your microwave directions in a microwave-safe mixing bowl. Stir in the coffee, and set it aside. Lightly scald the cream, and blend it into the beaten egg yolks. Be sure to stir this constantly. Heat the mixture in your microwave oven for approximately 30 seconds or until it¡¯s hot. Whip the heated mixture with a wire whisk.
In a separate mixing bowl, cream together the butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Gradually blend in the first mixture. Stir in peanuts if desired. Refrigerate the chocolate cream until it¡¯s stiff, and spoon it into small paper bonbon cups. If desired, sprinkle the chocolate drops with shredded coconut. Store the candy in a cool location.
Easy Chocolate Turtle Candy
1-14 ounce package wrapped caramels
2 tablespoons evaporated milk
1 tablespoon real butter
1-5 ounce package halved pecans
1-6 ounce package milk chocolate chips
1-1 inch cube paraffin, grated
Place the caramels, butter, and milk in a microwave-safe bowl, and heat them on high in your microwave until the caramels are melted. Stir the mixture to obtain a creamy consistency. Butter a baking sheet, and arrange groups of 4 pecan halves to begin creating the turtles. Place a spoonful of melted caramels over the nuts, and place the baking sheet in the refrigerator until the caramel is firm. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the paraffin and chocolate chips. Stir the chocolate and paraffin when they are halfway melted, and again when they are fully melted. Spoon a generous amount of melted chocolate over the caramel turtles. Place them in the refrigerator to harden. Store the candy in a cool location.
Now it¡¯s time to put together the chocolate candy gift basket. Place a generous amount of shredded colored tissue paper in the bottom of the basket. An electric paper shredder is very handy for shredding tissue paper.
Make individual pouches for each type of chocolate candy by wrapping the candy in large squares of colored cellophane. Secure the top of each pouch with color-coordinated ribbon. Place the candy pouches in the basket.
Wrap the entire basket with a large sheet of clear cellophane, and secure the top with a large colorful ribbon. The basket is now ready to present to a special friend or loved one.
The recipient of this chocolate candy gift basket will be impressed by the professional design of the basket and the mouth-watering treats inside. Most of all they¡¯ll appreciate the time and love that went into making this unique and thoughtful chocolate candy gift basket.
