Known as the "show me state" Missouri lives up to its name with an abundance of shows and attractions sure to please the young and old alike.
If you're planning to visit St. Louis, Missouri there is a lot to see. Anheuser-Busch offers tours of their factory as well as a viewing of just how their brew is made. Admission is free and there is even a gift shop for those interested in taking home a souvenir or two where you'll find everything from shirts to music Cds.
St. Louis is also home of the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site. Admission is free to the Historic Site and you can tour the site with a ranger or alone. Kids can also become Junior Rangers.
Another popular attraction is the St. Louis Union Station which includes a 539 room Hyatt Regency Hotel, over 90 shops and fine dining ranging from unique one-of-a-kind gifts to the Hard Rock Cafe. You can even ride the train to the ST. Louis Zoo and other nearby attractions.
The St. Louis Zoo is home to an impressive 9,200 animals including spotted Hyenas, cheetahs and polar bears. You can also enjoy a sea lion show, visit the Insectarium, and ride on the zooline railroad.
If that's not enough, Six Flags St. Louis will thrill even the young at heart with old favorites like Batman the Ride or the new Xcalibur ride. If you're looking for something a bit tamer there are tons of family rides, concerts and events.
If you enjoy Mother Nature at its unique best you might find Stanton, Missouri's Meramec Caverns well worth the drive. The caverns are located in the hills of Meramec Valley and boasts to be one of the largest and rarest cave formations in the world. The caverns are open year around and include a gift shop, restaurant and snack bar all located inside of the Meramec Caverns. There is even a ballroom.
If Kansas City, Missouri is more your style and you're planning a family vacation, you might want to check out the Toy and Miniature Museum. The museum has twenty-four rooms that shelve a collection of trains, dolls, miniatures, cast iron toys and even contemporary toys. The museum is housed on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
While you're at it the Children's Museum of Kansas City is another great stop for the families. They offer creative ways for children to explore and learn as they allow their visitors to "touch everything." There's Health Haven where children can see what a hospital and ambulance is like in a non-scaring environment, Egyptian Tomb where kids can see tombs created by the Sunflower Elementary School's students, and Slice of the City where kids can check out real underground equipment and more.
Kansas City Missouri also offers a glimpse of African American's heritage with the American Jazz Museum. Great Jazz Legends grace the museum with their spirit. You can experience the film "Jazz Is" starring Max Roach, Jay McShann, David Baker and Shirley Horn that takes a look into the tradition and art of Jazz music itself. The museum also exhibits four of the greatest legendary performers of Jazz, Louis Armstrong, Edward Kennedy Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Charlie Parker. Studio 18th & Vine, The Jazz Discovery Room, Jazz Central and The Blue Room each provide a glimpse of Jazz music and it's legends through storytelling, music and resource materials.
Located nearby is another great museum of legends, The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. With its 10,000 square-foot space, multi-media computer stations, film exhibits, 12 bronze sculptures and baseball artifacts there is a little something for everyone. The museum has also seen quite a few famous faces including past presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, Jesse Jackson, Walter Cronkite and Comedian-actor Sinbad.
Looking for something a little more country? A visit to Branson Missouri offers just that.
Silver Dollar City is one of Branson Missouri's most popular attractions. The theme park is well-known for it's 1880's atmosphere with crafts, shows, rides, restaurants and festivals. You'll find a wide variety of handmade goods, foods and memorable entertainment from the Ozark past. The park is open all year around and offers season passes for returning visitors.
Another great attraction is downtown Branson, home to the country music stars. Live Shows like Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede and Dinner Show, Charlie Pride, Doug Kershaw and Leona Williams, Doug Gabriel & Roy Clark Show, Kenny Rogers,
Mel Tillis and The Oak Ridge Boys are only a few of over 100 shows and events.
And last, but certainly not least there is the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum. Extraordinaire adventurer Robert Ripley has been collecting one-of-a-kind items from around the world. Its unique experience includes a Genuine Vampire Killing Kit, a two headed calf and a genuine shrunken head. The Ripley's museum is even made to look as if an earthquake has hit it and there's also a gift shop for those interested in a "Believe it or Not" Souvenir.
