Louisville is located in the beautiful Bluegrass state of Kentucky.  The city is located alongside the Ohio River and was founded in 1778 by George Rogers Clark.  There are many sights and sounds to experience in Louisville, Kentucky.  

1.  Churchill Downs has been the home of the Kentucky Derby since 1875.  The Kentucky Derby runs annually on the first Saturday of May.  Racing season begins in late April and runs through mid July and again at the end of October and throughout the month of November.  Churchill Downs is also home to the Kentucky Derby Museum.  The museum showcases a variety of exhibits and an award-winning film entitled ¡°The Greatest Race¡±.  

2.  The Louisville Slugger Museum is located in downtown Louisville and offers tours of their museum and factory.  Learn about the history of the famous Louisville Slugger bats and how they are made, and see the bats used by some of baseball¡¯s greatest players.  The tour takes approximately ninety minutes to complete, and all visitors receive a miniature bat as a souvenir.  

3.  Fourth Street Live is conveniently located near many of the hotels and tourist attractions in downtown Louisville.  Fourth Street Live features an assortment of restaurants and bars, retail shops and entertainment, including live music events.  

4.  The J.B. Speed Museum is the biggest and oldest art museums in Kentucky.  The museum boasts a wide variety of art including, but not limited to, African-American works, French & Egyptian art, and contemporary works as well.  The museum changes it exhibitions regularly, so there¡¯s always something new to check out at the museum.   

5.  Take me out to the ball game¡­Louisville has an array of sporting events for any fan.  Some of Louisville¡¯s top sporting events include University of Louisville basketball and football games, baseball games at Slugger Field with the Louisville Bats, and horse racing at Churchill Downs.  

6.  Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom is one of Louisville¡¯s top spots for the entire family.  Stroller and wheel chair rentals are available.  This super fun amusement park offers a variety of rides for everyone.  From heart-stopping, thrilling roller coasters to the smooth ride of a graceful carousel, everyone is sure to find a ride to please.  Once you¡¯ve experienced the ¡°dry¡± side of the park, be sure to visit the very wet Hurricane Bay Water Park.  Hurricane Bay features a lazy river ride and wave pool for all ages and a special area designated just for the younger members of your party.  

7.  The Kentucky Derby Festival consists of a series of events kicking off and leading up to the Kentucky Derby.  The festivities begin in April and include a Hole-in-One Contest, Hot Air Balloon Glow and Race, and the Great Steamboat Race.  Perhaps one of the greatest events of the Kentucky Derby Festival is Thunder Over Louisville.  Thunder Over Louisville is a spectacular show of fireworks synchronized to music.  

8.  Louisville Waterfront Park is located - you guessed it - on the waterfront of the Ohio River.  The park features a playground, a water park area, walking, jogging, & biking trails, and ¡°The Great Lawn¡±.  The Great Lawn is a huge grassy area that is used for a variety of activities including picnics and football and soccer games. 

9.  The Louisville Zoo is located right outside of downtown Louisville and is home to all kinds of different animals.  Lions, tigers and bears ¨C polar bears, that is ¨C all call the Louisville Zoo home.  The zoo offers stroller and wheel chair rentals, and there is also a tram that is available for travel throughout the zoo.  There are additional activities to enjoy while at the zoo, including train rides and carousel rides, giraffe feedings, and seal and sea lion training sessions.  

10.  The Louisville Science Center is fun for all ages and offers a fun approach to learning about science.  Interactive exhibits show how things work in our world, in our bodies, and even in our minds.  Hands-on learning is also offered through special classes throughout the day at the Center.  The Science Center also offers 45-minute sessions for children under the age of 7 in their own designated area.  Taking in an IMAX film is definitely a highlight of visiting the Science Center.
