When planning a romantic get-away, Indianapolis would probably not be the first destination that springs to mind. Surprisingly, Indianapolis actually offers many alternatives for couples desiring a weekend away from the ordinary. 

Indianapolis has been dubbed "The Crossroads of America." As the 12th largest city in the United States, more highways pass through Indianapolis than any other city in the United States. A great attribute is that more than half of the United States is only a day¡¯s drive away from the city, making it an ideal road trip destination.

In recent years, Indianapolis has evolved from having a true small town feel into a booming and vibrant urban metropolis. From major sporting events to fine dining to outdoor activities, Indianapolis has it all.

At the center of the city lies Monument Circle. Office buildings, shops and restaurants surround the gorgeously constructed thirty-two story monument, which also serves as an observation deck that has panoramic views of the city. Just steps away from Monument Circle is Circle Centre Mall. There is much more than just fabulous shops here. It also contains many restaurants, a movie theater and a whole floor devoted to night life. The 6th floor of Circle Centre is entirely comprised of seven clubs that are connected by hallways, making it easy to hop from one club to another. Each venue has its own distinct theme.

Downtown Indianapolis has a compact layout which makes it ideal for walking. The multitude of daytime and outdoor activities is outstanding. The White River State Park is in extremely close proximity to downtown, definitely in walking distance. It has recreational, cultural and educational aspects that could fill a whole day. This park is ideal for couples looking to experience something different and cultural. The White River State Park is made up of indoor attractions such as The Indiana State Museum, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, The Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial, an IMAX? Theater, and the NCAA Hall of Champions. The park is also boasts lovely outdoor venues like the Indianapolis Zoo, which features over 4,000 animals and is home to Indiana's largest aquarium. The White River Gardens is also an outdoor area where couples may enjoy the spectacular scenery of the gardens and waterways. It features a 5,000 square foot conservatory, seasonal botanical shows, theme gardens and many tropical plants. 

Couples will be especially attracted to the nearby canal walkway. The romantic water setting is reminiscent of Paris. It is complete with antique lamps, large fountains, bridges, murals and paddle boat rentals. After strolling hand-in-hand down the canal walkway, a horse-drawn carriage is available to whisk you off to the downtown destination of your choice.
