You don¡¯t have to put out much effort to create romance in Hawaii.  The natural beauty of the islands creates a perfect backdrop for a romantic getaway.  However, for those who want to maximize their trip for two, here are a few ideas and activities that are sure to produce memories for a lifetime.

OAHU

Oahu offers a variety of couples activities, ranging from serene to adventurous.  Want an ocean odyssey without getting wet?  Consider renting a glass-bottom boat.  These ten-foot boats for two are a great way to watch marine life without slipping into a swimsuit.  Of course, if you prefer to play in the surf, you could always take surfing lessons or go snorkeling together.  Kailua Bay is a great location to try kitesailing for the more adventurous.  

The island is full of beautiful locations for hiking or picnicking.  Makapu'u Lighthouse provides a spectacular sunrise view while Honolulu's Iolani Palace or Valley of the Temples Memorial Park offer great picnic locations.

For couple fun, consider touring the Dole Pineapple Plantation where you can get lost together in the garden¡¯s two-acre maze.  Why not rent a Harley and explore the island without being in the confines of a car?  Also, you could attend the Don Ho Show, where you¡¯ll be serenaded with Don Ho¡¯s most popular songs while enjoying a candlelight dinner.  For an unusual dining experience, visit ¡°The Oceanarium.¡±  This restaurant features a three story indoor aquarium.  Find out when feeding times are scheduled and make reservations a half hour in advance.  This will allow you to be there when the fish are most active.  If you happen to be celebrating a special day, you can ask for a tank sign.  When the diver goes into the tank to feed the fish, he will hold up the sign near your table to announce your birthday or anniversary.  

MAUI

Many enjoy an early morning hike to Mount Haleakala, Maui¡¯s dormant volcano.  The Haleakala Crater is an especially breathtaking scene for sunrise romance.  However, even in the hottest summer months, sunrise temperatures can average thrity-five degrees, so dress accordingly.  A half-day excursion to the southwestern coast of Maui can get you to Molokini Island.  It is a wonderful spot for snorkeling (probably the best in all the Hawaiian Islands), as it is a wildlife sanctuary, with a variety of fish and birds.  Hiking, whale-watching, mountain biking, horseback riding and an abundance of other outdoor activities abound on the island of Maui.

KAUAI

Kauai is one of the quieter islands, but it may be just the right spot for your romance to blossom.  Head to Hanalei Valley where you will be surrounded by a lush landscape complete with beautiful waterfalls.  From this location overlooking the sea, breathtaking sunsets can be viewed.  Take a boat ride to the famous Fern Grotto.  It is a cavern filled with huge ferns because it is located near the wettest spot on earth.  It is a popular spot for couples to marry or renew their vows, and during your visit, musicians will be singing the ¡°Hawaiian Wedding Song¡± to further set the stage for romance.  Another great outdoor tour can be found at Kilohana Plantation where you and your love can snuggle close as you take a carriage ride throughout the beautiful grounds.  How about visiting a butterfly farm?  Better yet, if you are planning a special occasion such as a marriage proposal or wedding, Wings Over Hawaii can arrange for hundreds of butterflies to be released for you.

BIG ISLAND

FUN ON ANY ISLAND

At most any of the Hawaiian Islands you will find a variety of outdoor activities.  For the beach-lover, snorkeling, surfing, swimming, and sunning are great pastimes that couples can enjoy together.  There are several beaches that tend to be more deserted if you would prefer to take a romantic walk on the beach uninterrupted.  For sailing fun, paddle boats, outrigger canoes or catamarans can be rented.  Helicopter rides are a great way to view the islands by air and pilots can even arrange to land in a secluded space for a private picnic.  Hiking is recommended on all of the islands because there is so much natural beauty to explore, and it¡¯s a good way to spend time alone enjoying one another¡¯s company.  Couples can also enjoy horseback riding, biking, golfing and much more,
