New York City is known as one of the world¡¯s largest cultural and entertainment hubs. It is absolutely the brightest and most interesting of all American cities. Everyone from celebrities to diplomats come to New York to shop, see shows, and eat. With such a large and bustling city in your view, it can be hard to find a place to dine that will be sure to please. New York offers everything from small corner diners to five star gourmet restaurants. Choosing the restaurant to fit your tastes can be confusing. It¡¯s important to know what the restaurants offer, and what may or may not be in your price range.
Gramercy Tavern was voted the most popular restaurant in New York City in 2004 by the famous Zagat survey. Located on East 20th Street, Gramercy Tavern offers up a diverse menu such as oysters on the half shell, rabbit rillettes, grilled scallops, filet mignon, and artichoke salad. Founder and head chef Tom Colicchio cooks up dishes with distinct and bold flavors. The menus¡¯ prices are not too out of range, but are just enough to make the Gramercy Tavern a top pick for a nice night of dining out.
Uncle Jack¡¯s Steakhouse is another popular spot, and has won the ¡°Five Star Diamond Award¡±, making it one of New York¡¯s most sought-after spots for dining on choice cut steaks and seafood. The restaurant serves up hearty portions of 22.5-ounce steaks, and delicious crab cakes. There are also delectable Australian lobster tails available, and some claim they are the biggest in New York. Located on 9th Avenue, Uncle Jack¡¯s Steakhouse is a sure fire location for the diner who enjoys a hearty, filling meal. The menu is fairly highly priced, but a great choice if you are looking to splurge.
If exotic is what you¡¯re seeking, Koi may just be the place for you. The restaurant serves up wonderful Japanese food ranging from duck breast to Chilean sea bass. The interior is extremely decadent with a huge lattice canopy that scours the entire ceiling. There is also a sushi bar, and prices on the menu range from $4 to $29 for appetizers, and $18 to $30 for entrees. Koi is located on W. 40th Street.
Of course, most people look forward to eating Italian food while in New York. Southside Caf¨¦ may be the perfect place for the fan of great Italian cuisine. The restaurant has some great dishes such as antipasti, calamari, a wide selection of pasta dishes, and chicken and shrimp served in just about every Italian variation. Most full entrees are in the $20 range, and appetizers are about $7 to $10. Southside Caf¨¦ is located on West 47th Street, and takeout is available as well. The dress code is casual, so it can be a decent place to take the kids, although the menu does not offer many kid-friendly dishes. Southside Caf¨¦ would be a terrific spot for a nice, romantic dinner.
If you¡¯re going to Times Square and a classic New York pizza is what you seek, check out John¡¯s Pizzeria. Located on West 44th Street, the pizzeria makes fresh coal oven-baked pizzas. Although they do not serve pizza by the slice, it¡¯s most likely you¡¯ll want to finish an entire pie anyway. They also serve up Italian sandwiches and salads. Pizza is reasonably priced at $10-$16 depending on topping choices.
The Edison Caf¨¦ is located in the Edison Hotel, and offers deli foods such as sandwiches and soups. The price range is very reasonable, with a menu range of anywhere from $5 to $10. It¡¯s been said Edison Caf¨¦ is a popular spot for many native New Yorkers, so be on the lookout for celebrities and business moguls. Edison Caf¨¦ is located on W. 47th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue.
These are just some of the hundreds of restaurants available in New York City. Whether you are planning an expensive night out on the town or a more casual dining experience, you can find delicious, quality food in either genre.
