Anaheim, California, home to the legendary theme park, Disneyland, may be the typical destination for families visiting Southern California, but it also offers the perfect romantic ambience for couples, whether young or young at heart.

In addition to the theme parks, Disneyland and California Adventure, Disney¡¯s vast tract of real estate in Anaheim is also home to the Downtown Disney District. Downtown Disney, is a hipper, more urban version of the Disney experience. 

There are numerous trendy, yet affordable eating and entertainment venues at Downtown Disney. The House of Blues is the best place to see live entertainment, without a doubt. It¡¯s also home to a varied menu that includes all- American staples like ribs and pizza. The ESPN Zone restaurant is a combination sports bar, arcade, memorabilia display, named after America¡¯s number one cable sports network.  ESPN serves classic grill food like chops and steaks. Video screens are everywhere at ESPN Zone, even the rest room. It is definitely the place you should visit if you are looking for a lot of stimuli. If you need to unwind after visiting the `zone¡¯ Downtown Disney is home to a charming bookstore called Compass Books. Compass Books also has a caf¨¦ if you want to grab a latte and a muffin while you browse.  The Rain Forest Caf¨¦ is another great place to eat. It has the misty, damp atmosphere of a tropical rain forest with trumpeting animatronic elephants and grunting mechanical apes. There is wide variety of pasta, chicken and beef. The salmon on the cedar plank is mouth watering. End your meal with a volcano fudge cake if you dare, enough calories to feed some small countries. If you are looking for something spicier, edgier and a little more upscale give Ralph Brennan¡¯s Jazz Kitchen a try. The building is modeled after a New Orleans Square style establishment, and the great service echoes that southern charm. Most of the menu has a spicy, Cajun kick to it. The jambalaya will have you flagging the waitress for another glass of water as you fork up another mouthful.

If you want to sample something a little less hectic than the Disney scene give the Phoenix club a try. The Phoenix club is a German cultural center. There are two great German restaurants at the Phoenix club and some great shops with an authentic old world feel. Die Bierstube is a great lunch hang out that serves staples of German cooking like Sauerkraut and Bratwurst. The Lorely restaurant tends towards a dinner crowd and serves such German specialties as Koeingberger Klopse and Weiner Schnitzel as well as steak and fish in Americanized versions. Both restaurants carry a wide assortment of premium German beers, many that are hard to find at your average restaurant or liquor emporium. The Phoenix club is an especially happening place to visit during the yearly Oktoberfest festival. 

Edison Field in Anaheim is home to the former World Champions of Major League Baseball, the Anaheim Angels. The stadium is user friendly with comfortable seating, affordable snacks and finer dining for those with more discerning pallets. The Angels remain one of the more exciting teams in Baseball. Be sure to bring your red T-shirt and stuffed rally monkey. 

The Grove of Anaheim, a wonderful concert venue, is located in the Northwestern corner of the Edison Field property. A 27,000 square foot hall, The Grove boasts killer acoustics and inventive lighting schemes. The Grove has attracted a wide variety of performers in recent months. From legendary bluesman , Muddy Waters to Funk Goddess, Teena Marie from Prog Rock guitar hero, Robert Fripp to techno wunderkind, Conor Obst (Bright Eyes), artists of every stripe have been known to show up at The Grove.

The Pond in Anaheim is home to the Mighty Ducks of the National Hockey League. While the NHL is currently on strike and it will be hard for you to get your hockey fix, The Pond does host numerous other events. Rock Gods, U2 and Bruce Springsteen have played the pond in recent years, as has uber-Diva Barbra Streisand. 

While Anaheim will probably never be mistaken for the capital of hip, it does have enough different entertainment choices to keep a couple having a good time. Great memories are here to be had regardless of your taste in entertainment or food.
