The Amistad Foundation on Main Street was founded in 1987 and has a collection of over 7,000 works of art. There are over 2,500 photographs of slave life. The Amistad Foundation is committed to the expressions of the history of African American life. They have many exhibitions, special events, and educational programs. If you want to visit the Amistad Foundation on your trip to Hartford you¡¯ll find it at the Wadsworth Antheneum Museum of Art. Again, the museum itself is a great side trip in your plans and if you have time you should definitely browse through.

Hartford Symphony Orchestra on Farmington Avenue is widely renowned as an American regional orchestra. It has been running over 61 seasons and presents more than 60 concerts annually. The orchestra received the 2004 Governor¡¯s Art Award as well. This concert orchestra is always having a great performance and visitors to the area should take one in.

Connecticut Opera on Farmington Avenue is a milestone in Connecticut and in America in general. It is the sixth oldest professional opera company in the US. It has three to four main operas a season and has an age appropriate operatic performances as well. There are more than 30,000 students and seniors in the school. For great cultural aspects of Hartford, it is worth a look at this pivotal touchstone of America¡¯s Opera history.

Ski Sundown is a great ski resort in Hartford that possesses the second largest vertical drop at 625 feet. Its average snowfall is around 60 inches a year and it has 3 triples, 1 double and 1 surface lift. There are 15 trials for any snow skier.  There is a ski school for those wanting to learn to ski and there are beginner¡¯s packages. If you are visiting Hartford it¡¯s a wonderful way to spend the day, and the lift prices are usually lower than the average Aspen lot.

Batterson Park on Batterson Street is open from dawn to dusk on weekdays for residents and weekends for the general public. It is a large park that includes many sporting facilities. Of those facilities there is baseball, basketball, swimming pond, boat launches, and picnic areas. A good way to get some adrenaline flowing and get your sport on.

Bushnell Park on Trinity Street is open from dawn to dusk, all week, and all year. Located in the center of Hartford¡¯s downtown, the park has a playground, walking paths, and a carousel. A wonderful way to pass the afternoon, you can walk around the rare exotic trees in the park. It is a great idea for a lazy afternoon
