Couples will find Memphis, Tennessee a most romantic city.  Whether it is the moonlight reflecting off the Mississippi River, the laid back southern atmosphere, or the soft sounds of Elvis love songs you¡¯ll find playing around town, Memphis is definitely a town for lovers.

Downtowns often attract starry eyed lovers and downtown Memphis is no exception.  A great place to start your visit is the focal point of downtown, the mighty Mississippi River.  Couples will enjoy walking down the five mile track during the sunset or after finished a big meal.  There are benches available for resting and gazing at the beautiful river.  You can also enjoy stopping at Tom Lee Park along the way.  If you want to experience a ride on the river, there are riverboat cruises that run both day and night.  The night cruise offers a cozy dinner followed by dancing to music from local bands.  To get away from the crowd on the main level, take the stairs to the top level of the riverboat and dance by the moonlight or simply gaze at the scenery.  Before you depart, your picture is taken with the riverboat in the background and you may buy copies if you wish when you return as a reminder of your special night.

While downtown, you will want to visit the famous Peabody Hotel.  Built in 1869, the Peabody has long been recognized as a majestic southern hotel and the center of downtown Memphis.  It is located close to other attractions such as Beale Street, The Pyramid and many famous Memphis restaurants.  The hotel includes modern day amenities like the Athletic Club and Gould¡¯s Day Spa.  But it also features an amenity from that is a nod to the South of yesterday, a shoe shine service.  Rooms at the Peabody include luxury guest rooms and various suites including a Romeo and Juliet upstairs/downstairs suite.  There is no need to leave the hotel for an enchanting dinner.  Chef Jos¨¦ Gutierrez of Chez Phillipe is renowned for serving the finest in French cuisine.  The menu includes hors d'oeuvres such as warm lobster salad and Fried roquefort cheese salad and entrees of braised beef shortribs and caramelized salmon with jumbo asparagus.  Chef Jos¨¦ recently created edible chocolate flower, red roses and a ring box out of white chocolate for a wedding proposal.  If French food isn¡¯t what you are craving, you can take a short walk in the alley behind the Peabody to find Charlie Vergos¡¯ Rendezvous.  The Rendezvous often caters to visiting celebrities and dignitaries with the most mouthwatering, finger licking dry ribs in the world.  The atmosphere is romantic as well with its low lighting, antiques strown about the place and classic Memphis hits from Al Green and Elvis playing on the jukebox.

Beale Street is a perfect stroll for couples in downtown Memphis.  You can go in clubs like Alfred¡¯s or the Rum Boogie Cafe to hear the music, but you can feel the blues by just walking up and down the historic street.  Spend a relaxing evening sitting under the stars, listening to musicians playing for free in Handy Park. 

In midtown Memphis, the historic Cooper-Young district can be a good place for couples to visit.  A blend of eclectic shops, coffeehouses, and restaurants, the Cooper-Young area is known for its uniqueness.  Visit Young Avenue Deli for their selection of over 100 different types of bottled beer or their excellent food menu.  Their fries were voted among the top ten best in America by USA Today.

A walk though Memphis Botanical Gardens will make any thoughts turn to love.  Engage your sense of smell and sight as you walk through the Rose Garden, the Sensory Garden and the Japanese Garden of Tranquility.  The Gardens host events like wine tastings, picnics, and martini parties over the 96 acres of gorgeous lakes, gardens and greenery.

Finally, if you visit Memphis with your significant other and feel like taking a drive about 45 minutes south, you can visit the third largest gambling destination in America.  Nothing is sexier than winning big at a casinos like Ballys, The Grand or The Horseshoe while playing table games or slots.  After you win, you can buy your sweetie something special is the gift store.  Every weekend offers concerts by such artists as ZZ Top, James Brown, Jeff Foxworthy and Tom Jones in addition to top notch boxing events on occasion.  There is a trolley that runs from some of the casinos to the outlet mall located in the area that features over 40 stores.  Some casinos have fitness center, golf courses, and day spas available as well.

As you can see, not matter what you decide to do while in Memphis, there are plenty of romantic, memorable opportunities available.
