FRENCH QUARTER (DURING THE DAY)

During the day, couples can stroll down the streets of the French Quarter, enjoying the sights and sounds that make New Orleans a magical place.   Soak in the city¡¯s enchanting and historic architecture as you take a romantic carriage ride around the French Quarter, which, by the way, is mostly of Spanish, not French origin.  Step back in time as you take a tour of one of many of these older buildings that have been restored to their original splendor including the beautiful Hermann- Grima House, which is an exquisite mansion that was built before the Civil War.  Have your portrait painted in Jackson Square, where you¡¯ll enjoy an eclectic mix of artists, street performers and tarot readers.  

FRENCH QUARTER (AT NIGHT)

At night, the French Quarter certainly earns its reputation as one of the party capitals of the world.  On weekend nights and weeklong during peaks seasons, the French Quarter becomes a haven for all types of party goers.  Couples can choose from a variety of nightspots that range from dance clubs, karaoke clubs, and jazz bars, etc.  Be sure to visit Pat O¡¯Brien¡¯s, a favorite nightspot of both locals and visitors. The courtyard at Pat O¡¯Brien¡¯s provides a fantastic place for couples to have an intimate conversation or mingle with others.  At Pat O¡¯Brien¡¯s piano bar, couples can sing along with other patrons to requested favorites like, ¡°Bye, Bye Ms. American Pie¡± or ¡°Mr. Piano Man.¡±   

SIX FLAGS NEW ORLEANS

Couples who enjoy the thrill of an amusement park will have a fantastic time at the Six Flags New Orleans, which is only a half an hour bus ride from Downtown.  Six Flags New Orleans offers guests over thirty exciting rides to choose from.  Squeeze your mate tight as you fly on the Batman, the signature ride of Six Flags, which climbs over 100 feet in the air at 50 miles an hour!  Six Flags also provides guests with a wide array of shows and concerts.   Should you decide to visit Six Flags, allow yourself at least one full day to enjoy all of the amenities that the park has to offer.  

HARRAH'S CASINO

Located across the street from the Riverwalk, Harrah¡¯s Casino allows couple the opportunity to drink free and gamble in style and luxury.  Harrah¡¯s also offers an array of musical and comedy shows and, and four restaurants.   Harrah¡¯s is open 24 hours a day.  

SHOPPING

Opportunities are endless for couples who love to shop and are vacationing in New Orleans.  Shops of all varieties line the streets of the French Quarter making it a perfect place for couples to go antiquing or buy the ¡°perfect¡± souvenir.   The Riverwalk, a large mall located on the Mississippi River offers stores that suit all tastes, with the added benefit of supplying shoppers with a beautiful view.  Shoppers can also spend hours scouring several booths that make up The Old Farmer¡¯s Market, a flea market on the outskirts of the French Quarter that is over five blocks long.  

EAT, EAT, EAT!!!!!

New Orleans is packed with restaurants and its reputation for serving world renowned food is definitely a trait that is well earned.  Local favorites vary from the very high scale, like Antoine¡¯s, an enchanting restaurant that serves delectable dishes and treats customers like royalty to Mulate¡¯s Cajun Restaurant, which offers guests both a delicious menu and an authentic Cajun dance hall.   Couples can also consider having a jazz brunch at one of the many restaurants that offer them, like Brennan¡¯s and The Court of Two Sisters.   

AUDUBON PARK AND ZOO

The Audubon Park and Zoo is one of the most premiere zoos in the country.   The Audubon Zoo offers a variety of exhibits and even has a center for researching endangered species.   The grounds of the zoo, and its outlying park, which overlook the beautiful campuses of Tulane and Loyola Universities, provide the picture perfect spot for couples to enjoy a romantic picnic or a day of fun in the sun.

TAKE A BOAT RIDE

Known as the ¡°Crescent City¡± because it is shaped like a crescent around the Mississippi River, New Orleans offers many opportunities for couples to enjoy its many waterways.   Consider cruising down the Mississippi River aboard the Steamboat Natchez where you will enjoy mingling with locals and tourists, and periodic jazz cruises.  Adventuresome couples should also consider taking one of many swamp tours offered.  During a swamp tour, couples will get a first hand look at Louisiana¡¯s beautiful wetlands and wildlife, and almost definitely a few alligators!   

SEE A SHOW

New Orleans offers a variety of venues in which visitors can watch both theatrical and musical productions.  The Saenger Theatre hosts a variety of shows ranging from Broadway productions to comedy and musical concerts by very well known artists.  There are also smaller venues, like the Le Petit and Southern Rep Theatres, which feature both local and national talent.  Couples who enjoy symphonies should definitely consider seeing a show by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra at its home, the Orpheum Theatre.
