Sacramento was originally a supply town for gold miners and is one of the nation¡¯s fastest growing cities offering something for everyone from family fun to single activities including parks, trails for biking and hiking, fishing, rafting, nightlife, and more. 

Old Sacramento, a National Historic Landmark, is the city¡¯s main tourist area.  Take a step into the past as you walk down the wooden sidewalks, horse drawn carriages, and historic buildings.  Old Sacramento has entertainment (Mardi Gras, Jazz Jubilee, and Festival de la Familia, rock-n-roll, and comedy shows to name a few), restaurants, and all types of shops, museums, and places to stay.

Sacramento has many parks where you can relax, jog, and bike, meet people, or just enjoy the scenery:

? California State Capitol Park consists of 40 acres of beautiful gardens attracting thousands of visitors each year. 

? McKinley Park has a public library, playground, tennis and basketball court, ball fields, running trail, beautiful gardens, a pool, and a pond. 

? Cesar Chavez Park sits in downtown Sacramento featuring native landscaping of flowers and old palm trees.   Enjoy local musicians at different times during the year and a farmer¡¯s market on Wednesdays. 

? Sutters Fort built by John Sutter a Swiss immigrant is more than 150 years old.  Set up as a trading post during the gold rush days this historic building offers many memories into the past.

? Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is located in the Sierra-Nevada foothills.  It is not in Sacramento but is just a short 20 minute drive away.  The recreation area has camping and picnic areas, horseback riding, water-skiing, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, and much more.

The Sacramento Zoo once known as the William Land Park Zoo first opened on June 2, 1927.  At its first location, the zoo had a little over 4 acres and only 40 animals.  The zoo is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing and educational day. Today the zoo has over 14 acres and hundreds of animals and exhibits including:

? Cats: Jaguars, lions, snow leopards, and tigers.

? Hoofed animals: Gazelle, zebra, and giraffes.

? Primates: Lemurs, orangutans, gibbons, chimpanzees, and more.

? Mammals: Wallaby, anteaters, otters, pandas, hyenas, porcupines, and more.

? Birds: parrots, flamingo, eagles, hornbills, emus, ducks, toucans, and more.

? Turtles, Tortoises, and Amphibians: bullfrogs, tree frogs, pancake tortoise, star tortoise, pond turtle, and more.

? Snakes, Reptiles, and Lizards: pythons, boas, copperheads, vipers, rattlesnakes, African dwarf crocodile, monitors, geckos, gila lizard, iguanas, and more.

? Fish: Chinese sucker fish, Koi, and Madagascar cichlid fish.

Sacramento¡¯s Paradise Island Amusement Park has rides for all ages including a ferris wheel, scrambler, bumper cars, tilt-a-whirl, and more.  There is also a miniature golf course, bumper boats, and Indy cars.

Six Flags Waterworld is an awesome place to enjoy the water and its thrills starting with the Honolulu Halfpipe, which is a 4-story wave ride giving you a thrilling free fall experience. Cliffhanger Speed Slide is a double slide starting at 6-stories sending you on a high speed ride.  Hold on to your suit as you drop into the cool pool from Cannonball Falls a thrilling ¡®drop-out¡¯ slide.  The Shark Attack is a group of five awesome slides.  Breaker Beach is Northern California¡¯s largest wave pool.  Ride the waves just like at the ocean.  Come enjoy these slides and much more at Six Flags Waterworld.

Sacramento has many nightclubs, dining establishments, theaters and gambling places as well. Capitol Casino is open 24 hours a day and has two restaurants and one game table.
