Galveston is located on a barrier island along the Texas Gulf Coast. The city is about 50 miles south of Houston. The barrier island upon which Galveston sits is over 30 miles long, and is home to nearly 60,000 residents.

Another outdoor experience which is a must see in Galveston is the Galveston Seawall. This seawall was built to protect the city from the Gulf of Mexico. The seawall is eight miles long.
Of course, if your idea of outdoor activity is hitting the links, then Galveston will certainly not disappoint. Here, you can find golf courses offering 18 challenging holes while also providing a great outdoor experience.
For the museum lover, the Texas Seaport Museum is a must see. The museum allows the visitor to explore the history of Galveston and Galveston Island. Another must see is the Lone Star Flight Museum. Here you enter a large aircraft hanger as you experience many restored aircraft and see historic photographs from the history of flight. If those are not enough for the museum lover, there is also the Galveston Island Railroad Museum and Terminal, as well as the Moody Mansion Museum, a 19th century mansion that houses furnishing, artwork, and silver from one of the prominent families in Galveston history.
For those visitors who want to able to walk and experience an overview of the culture and style of Galveston, then The Strand is the place. The Strand is an area in the historic district of Galveston that contains delis, pubs, and shops. In addition, the Galveston Island Trolley can assist the visitor in exploring the beautiful city.
Regardless of your idea of experiencing a city, from outdoor activities to museums to eclectic shops and delis, Galveston has what you are looking for. The person who is traveling alone in Galveston will not be disappointed by being alone in this city. In fact, you may have to make another trip to the city just to see all that it has to offer.
