Finding things to do alone in San Jose, California, is definitely not a problem. Whether you are alone in San Jose on business, pleasure, or vacation from family life, San Jose has a myriad of interesting things to do.
One of the first hurdles I have had to overcome when traveling alone is going to a restaurant. Your dining experience may seem quite lonely when surrounded with laughing couples and noisy families. My best dining experience in San Jose is ¡°Original Joe¡¯s¡± on the corner of South First Street and East San Carlos. It is located near a variety of interests in an easy ¡°park & walk¡± center of downtown. There is always room for ¡°one more¡± at the dining counter, meals are reasonably priced and the cooking show is free. I suggest seating between the saut¨¦ cooks and the grill for an enthralling and continuous show. As a single person, you can dine at peak hours when the place is packed, and you will have a great time, guaranteed. Cooks and most of your fellow diners are friendly and chatty, jokes abound, and people clap when the saut¨¦ cooks flip the pans without dropping any food. Original Joe¡¯s has a wide menu. You can dine Italian, American grill, or Vegan, and still come away with money in your wallet and a smile on your face.
Another hurdle I had to shed while wandering cities alone was that blue, self-centered thinking that I could wear like a blanket. A great place to loose such uncomfortable feelings is the San Jose Museum of Art. Modern and contemporary art viewing is a great way to change your mood and feelings. Thoughts of curiosity and wonder begin to replace those blue feelings and you can spend an hour or two communing with paintings, sculpture, photos, and the minds that created them. The gift store has some wonderful, unique items for sale. If you are on a business trip and loved ones are expecting trinkets, this is a wonderful place to browse. Admission is free so you can venture in without feeling you have to make a commitment.
One of the advantages of being alone in San Jose is that you can always get a last minute seat to a sporting, theatrical, or music event. There is usually something going on afternoon and evening at the HP Pavilion or the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. Both are located within a good walking distance from Original Joe¡¯s or the Museum of Art. Public transportation is very user friendly, should you decide to spare your feet. Even when events are sold out, there are often cancellation seats available by Showtime. Stay near to the ticket area, be persistent, and seldom will you go away, disappointed.
Another ¡°room for one more¡± possibility is Monopoly in the Park located a short walk from the Center for Performing Arts. Monopoly in the Park is a 930-foot board game, where the people are the pieces. This is more for a large group activity, however, if players are in need of more people, you can get in on a game and enjoy an unforgettable experience.
Whether you are Tech-savvy or Tech-challenged, a great place to visit is the Tech Museum of Innovation. Being alone will provide you a great advantage to spend as much time as you want on the innovation, which interests you. Any stress, cares or worries that you bring to the admission desk, you will quickly drop as your mind becomes engaged in some of the most fascinating gadgets and projects imaginable.
In the outer areas of San Jose, attractions which are quite fun to enjoy alone are ¡°Raging Waters¡±, shopping at Santana Row, or the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum on Naglee Avenue. These are all accessible by public transportation and worthy of hours of enjoyment.
Therefore, what use is sitting alone in your hotel room, come and enjoy life in San Jose, California.
