When traveling to or living in a new city, it can make a big difference if you are able to find a fun, hip, and happening nightclub.  However, trying a lot of different nightclubs can be time consuming and a waste of money.  To avoid wasting your time and hard earned cash, here are several ways to find a fun place to hang out for the evening.  

The local media is a great way to find a fun nightclub or bar.  Radio stations often have advertisements for clubs and bars.  If you like the music playing on the radio station, chances are you will like the clubs advertised.  Also some radio stations sponsor Club Crawls.  This is a great way to find a fun nightclub as the Club Crawl often goes to several places in one evening.  Local newspapers and magazines also are a great way to find out about nightclubs.  

Advertisements can give you a feel of what to expect at the club.  Reviews of bands, DJs, or even new clubs can often be found in local print media.  Local television stations can also have advertisements for some clubs, but less frequently than radio, newspapers, and magazines.  

Almost anything can be found on the internet, including information about nightclubs and bars.  Before arriving in the city, be sure to look at local websites for nightlife information.  Just a quick search with the city name and nightclubs will usually generate several useful websites.  Besides finding individual club and bar sites, there are often websites that give overviews and reviews of local clubs and bars.  Be sure to check out both types of websites. 

Word of mouth is probably the best way to find a great nightclub and bar.  If a lot of people are talking about the club, chances are you will enjoy going there.  If you are staying in a hotel, you can ask the people at the front desk or other employees for recommendations.  When dining out at a restaurant, don¡¯t feel too shy to ask your server for some ideas, too.  If you just moved to a new city, ask your neighbors or co-workers.  When asking others for suggestions, make sure the person you ask is someone who you think you would like to spend time with.  This will make it more likely you will have the same preferences in nightclubs and bars.  

Going out on the town can also reveal hot nightspots.  Look for clubs and bars with lines outside.  If there is a long line, the place must be great!  Listen for the music coming out the door.  If it sounds like your type of music, give that place a shot.  Look at the people going into the club.  If they look like people you could be friends with, you may also have the same taste in nightclubs.  Look at and listen to the people leaving the club, too.  If they look like they had a great time, and are talking about it, too, then that club or bar may be the one for you.
