Philadelphia Zoo

For a bird¡¯s eye view of the zoo and the spectacular Philadelphia skyline, take a trip on the Zooballoon. This helium-filled tethered balloon has a mesh-enclosed gondola that can float up to 30 passengers 400 feet above ground. The Zooballoon costs $15.95 for adults and $12.95 for children ages 2-11 in-season and 10.00 for both adults and children during the off-season.

Cape May City

Located approximately one hour south of Atlantic City is the one of the nation¡¯s oldest seashore resort: Cape May City. Situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay, this picturesque city, a national historic landmark site, boasts more than 600 faithfully restored and preserved Victorian structures. Tours of the historic district and a large number of inns are scheduled daily through the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (609-884-5404).

Philadelphia Area Museums

For art and history lovers, Philadelphia¡¯s Museum Mile is a slice of heaven. Just a 90-minute drive from Atlantic City, there is a museum to suit every age and whimsy.

The Academy of Natural Sciences Museum features plenty of dinosaurs as well as a world-renowned natural history collection that includes over 17 million specimens. Call 215-299-1000 for information and directions.

To nurture your inner weirdness, visit the Mutter Museum. This treasure trove of 19th and 20th century medical equipment and fluid-preserved anatomical and pathological specimens is admittedly not for everybody, but if you¡¯ve ever wondered what the thorax of John Wilkes Booth looked like, this is the place for you! Call 215-563-3737 for information and directions.
