Las Vegas has made efforts in the past few years to show that ¡°Sin City¡± isn¡¯t just for ¡°Adult Entertainment.¡±  There is plenty for the family to do in this desert oasis.  The famous Las Vegas Strip alone offers many possibilities.  Load up the can and head to Las Vegas for a great family vacation.

Overcoming the desert heat is priority one, especially during the summer.  Wet ¡®n¡¯ Wild is a water park located right on the Strip.  There are a variety of water attractions.  The more adventurous can seek thrills on the more exhilarating rides while the younger and less crazy family members can enjoy slower-paced rides.  There¡¯s plenty of cool water-based relaxation as well.

Families can enjoy more water-based entertainment at the Bellagio.  The Bellagio features a famous outdoor fountain show in the large pond in front of the hotel.  The show can be seen many times a day free of charge.  Spurts and streams of water ¡°perform¡± to music, creating a delightful way to spend a few minutes.

M&M World is especially geared toward children.  The whole family will enjoy a tour, hosted by the famous M&M candies (as seen in TV commercials).  There is a fun gift shop as well.  The highlight, however, is a room full of multi-colored M&Ms.  Kids (and adults) can create their own mixes of M&Ms, including non-traditional colors like black, purple and gray.

Another fun stop on the Las Vegas Strip is Gameworks.  This arcade is huge, and features a large variety of arcade games, including virtual games.  There is also a climbing wall with routes for all ages and abilities.

The indoor amusement park at Circus Circus, the Adventuredome, offers numerous rides.  There is something for everyone:  thrill rides for the older kids and kiddie rides for the younger children.  The Adventuredome also features large dinosaur replicas and other things kids enjoy seeing.

Staying at the Mirage is like staying at a zoo.  You don¡¯t have to stay there, however, to take advantage of the family entertainment.  The Mirage features a dolphin habitat, a white tiger exhibit, a tropical rainforest, an aquarium and a real exploding volcano.  The volcano is located outside, and after dark is erupts in a spectacle of fire.

Lodging at the Excalibur is a trip back to the Middle Ages and the time of King Arthur.  In the outside moat surrounding the castle, a free show featuring Merlin and a dragon can be seen.  Inside, there is plenty to look at, including dragons outside the Sherwood Forest Caf¨¦.  Kids are welcome to climb upon them.  Additionally, the Court Jester¡¯s Stage is the location of magic and puppet shows designed for smaller audiences.  The Tournament of Kings is a true extravaganza, Las Vegas style, that the whole family can enjoy.

Las Vegas is home to many buffets, and families can enjoy reasonably priced food.  The Rio features the World Buffet, showcasing cuisine from all over the world.  Children (and their parents!) can have the novel experience of trying new foods.  However, if the kids decide they don¡¯t like the different fare, there is no shortage of American standards.

Getting off the Strip can be fun for families as well.  The Las Vegas Mini Gran Prix is an amusement park with the traditional rides you¡¯d expect.  But, as the name suggests, there is no shortage of small-car racing.  There are three different tracks for the kids, and one for adults (a driver¡¯s license is needed).

Scandia Family Fun Center is another off-Strip option.  There are go-carts, bumper boats, more than one mini-golf course and a batting cage.  There are small rides, as well as an arcade.  As an added bonus, the center has Monday nights after 5 p.m. designated as Family Nights.

If you really have to hit the town as adults, most hotels do offer some form of childcare.  However, the MGM Grand features a Youth Center.  The center boasts 3,000 square feet of arts, games, sports and video games for children aged 3 to 12.  Rates vary, and there is a 5-hour limit.  But that¡¯s more than enough time for you to spend a little quality time without the kids.

No matter what you choose, there¡¯s plenty for the family to do in Las Vegas.
