Baltimore, also known as Charm City, is filled with fun attractions and activities for kids. When I was growing up, living in Baltimore City meant never having a chance to be bored. Visitors should be sure they don¡¯t miss these great attractions.

My favorite place to visit when I was a child was the Baltimore Zoo, which is located in Druid Hill Park. At the time, it was much smaller than it is now, but I still really enjoyed the train, the animal rides, and the petting zoo. On my latest visit, I found that there are now many other things for kids to do. The children¡¯s zoo is absolutely amazing. Kids can sit in the oversized nest of our state bird, the Baltimore Oriole. They can also enjoy a neat interactive turtle display and hop across lily pads. The children¡¯s farm is an expanded version of the old petting zoo and is where my niece spends most of her time when we visit. Even though the elephants will be moving to another location, the main zoo still has a lot of really nice exhibits and animals. If you are visiting Baltimore with kids in tow, the zoo is definitely an attraction you should make the time to see.

While you are in Druid Hill Park, don¡¯t forget a visit to the newly renovated Baltimore Conservatory and Botanic Gardens. This beautiful garden and the accompanying greenhouses is very family friendly. There are many events geared towards families scheduled throughout the year. My favorite event is the Easter egg hunt the Botanic Garden holds every year.

Baltimore is also famous for its National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center located right across from the aquarium located in the Inner Harbor. The National Aquarium is packed with sea life and has so many activities for families that it is hard to see it all in one day. Seals, sharks, and dolphins put on shows throughout the day. If you make it through the exhibits on the lower levels, don¡¯t miss the steamy rain forest located on the top floor. Parrots fly freely through the tropical plants and trees. If you have the energy for another stop, the Maryland Science Center is absolutely wonderful. You can always start with the planetarium or the IMAX theater and tour the rest of the exhibits after you rest. There are magic shows and a ton of interactive exhibits to view. In addition, the gift shop has a wide variety of items that are very educational, but still manage to be fun.

Before you leave the Inner Harbor, you should be sure to take any baseball lovers to the spectacular new baseball stadium at Camden Yards. Even when games aren¡¯t in progress, it is a fun place to visit. If the gift shop at the stadium just whets your children¡¯s appetite for more baseball related items, don¡¯t worry. The Babe Ruth Museum is two blocks up from the stadium. 

Finally, if you have time, try to squeeze in a visit to the Port Discovery Children¡¯s Museum, which is just blocks from the Maryland Science Center and Camden Yards. There are so many wonderful activities for kids that we never get through the entire museum. Some of the best exhibits are the Research and Development Center, the Adventure Expeditions, and Kid Works. The R & D Center allows kids to create their own inventions. The Adventure Expedition is like a trip back in time and the current expedition takes kids to ancient Egypt. Kid Works is a giant three story play house.
