California is the land of sun and fun.  Whether you are in Northern or Southern California there are enough attractions and activities to satisfy everyone in the family.  The weather is relatively mild all year round, making most activities possible no matter what season it is.  Here are some activities guaranteed to provide family fun.

Beaches.  If you are in California, don¡¯t pass up the opportunity to dip your feet in the Pacific Ocean.  The best beaches for sunbathing and swimming are in southern California.  The water is warmer and the beaches tend to be less foggy than northern California.   Slap on some sunscreen and go prepared with a towel, water and sand toys for the kids.

San Francisco.  San Francisco is a must see if you are in Northern California.  The city is historic and beautiful, and the kids should definitely get a view of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Fisherman¡¯s Warf is a popular tourist attraction.  In addition to shops and restaurants, there are games and entertainment for the kids.  You can even experience an 8.0 earthquake at Pier 39.  In the same area is Ghirardelli Square, which is world famous for chocolate and hot fudge sundaes.  For the adults and kids over 10, Alcatraz is a short ferry ride away.  The historic prison is on an island one mile from San Francisco.  The old prison still stands and tours are conducted every day.

Yosemite.  If you are into nature and camping, Yosemite is a must see.  It is a beautiful national park located in central California.  Camping and hiking are popular activities.  The scenery cannot be beat with rivers, waterfalls and trees as far as the eye can see.

Santa Cruz.  Santa Cruz is a beautiful coastal city located in central California.  The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is the big attraction.  It is a wonderful beach that locals flock to, surrounded by a boardwalk with roller coasters, rides, shops and games.  The boardwalk offers something for kids of all ages.  The surrounding area is filled with cute little hotels and restaurants.

Los Angeles.  Los Angeles is the place to see and be seen.  It is the premier spot for celebrity spotting and offers great opportunities for behind the scene views of movies and television.  Universal Studios is located near Hollywood.  It is an amusement park that also has old movie and television sets to view.  There is also the Universal City Walk located outside of the studios that has shopping, restaurants and family entertainment.  Nearby is the NBC Studios.  Daily tours are available of the studios where Days of our Lives and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno are filmed.  The Mann¡¯s Chinese Theater is also a popular spot to visit.  It is a movie theater that is well known for the cement handprints of various celebrities displayed outside.  In addition, check out Sunset Boulevard and Rodeo Drive.

Disneyland.  No visit to southern California would be complete without a stop at Disneyland.  It is known as the happiest place on earth, and that tends to be true for most kids.  California Adventure recently opened up next door to Disneyland, with Downtown Disney in between.  California Adventure offers more thrilling roller coasters and a variety of food, including alcohol.  Downtown Disney has restaurants, shopping and an active nightlife.  There are several Disney hotels within walking distance to the parks, and numerous other hotels in the area.  Plan to stay a night or two, it is impossible to see all Disneyland has to offer in one day.

San Diego.  San Diego is often recognized as one of the best places for kids.  With the miles of beaches in San Diego, it is a great place to learn to surf.  Adults and kids of all ages can learn to surf in a day at most beaches.  There are also numerous amusement parks worth visiting.  Seaworld is one of San Diego¡¯s best-known attractions.  The focus is on sea life, and there are numerous animal shows including Shamu, the killer whale.  The park also has roller coasters and a nightly firework show.  About 15 miles away is Legoland.  Legoland is located in beautiful Carlsbad, about 25 miles north of downtown San Diego.  It is an amusement park geared to kids aged 2 to 12, and almost everything is made out of legos.  There are various play areas, roller coasters and shows.  San Diego is also famous for its zoo and the Wild Animal Park.  Both parks offer unique activities for interacting with the animals.
