Comprised of four theme parks, Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida is the world¡¯s number one vacation destination. Disney World¡¯s four theme parks are Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney¡¯s Animal Kingdom. Disney World also includes two water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.
Magic Kingdom is a must-see for families with small children. As you wander the streets of Tomorrowland, Frontierland, or Fantasyland, you¡¯ll meet your favorite characters, all of whom are happy to sign autographs for your little ones or pose for pictures with kids of all ages. Attractions like ¡°The Hall of Presidents¡± are educational, while rides like ¡°Space Mountain¡± are not for the faint of heart.
Divided into two areas, ¡°Futureworld¡± and ¡°World Showcase,¡± Epcot is a more educational experience. Epcot¡¯s trademark Silver Orb is ¡°Spaceship Earth,¡± where visitors learn about the history of human communication. At the World Showcase, visitors can tour pavilions displaying different cultures and countries around the world. Here, you can buy a pair of Moroccan sandals, eat a yummy French pastry, or learn about Norse legends.
Disney-MGM Studios offers a glimpse inside Disney¡¯s filmmaking tradition. Visitors here can learn about movie-making special effects and experience them firsthand on rides like Star Tours and The Great Movie Ride or shows like the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular. If you¡¯re lucky, you can get a behind-the-scenes peak at TV shows and movies being filmed on the Disney-MGM soundstages and back lots.
Disney¡¯s Animal Kingdom is the most recent addition to the family of Orlando theme parks. A mix of real animals and animatronic dinosaurs wait for you here. Take a safari or a jungle tour to see your favorite animals in their natural habitats.
Disney World¡¯s water parks are a great way to cool off from the hot Florida sun. Blizzard Beach is a ski-resort themed water park and Typhoon Lagoon offers the excitement of rough seas in the safety of a Disney park.
Disneyland, in Anaheim, California, is Disney¡¯s oldest theme park. Opened in 1955, it was Walt Disney¡¯s vision of the perfect family vacation destination. Like Disney World, Disneyland is divided into eight areas, including Tomorrowland, Frontierland, and Fantasyland. Attractions here appeal to a wide range of ages and interests, with thrill rides, educational attractions, live shows, and children¡¯s rides. Nearby, Disney¡¯s California Adventure park celebrates California¡¯s past and present, from the gold rush to today¡¯s movie stars.
Disneyland Paris opened in 1992 as Eurodisney, to less than stellar reviews. After some tweaking, Disneyland Paris is now the number one vacation destination in Europe. This park is divided into five areas, similar to Disneyland and Disney World. In 2002, Walt Disney Studios opened as the European version of the Disney-MGM Studios park in Orlando.
In Japan, Tokyo Disney is Asia¡¯s number one vacation destination. Tokyo Disney is also divided into several areas, including Tomorrowland, Toon Town, and World Bazaar. Next door, Tokyo¡¯s DisneySea theme park is dedicated to legends of the sea. The rides here are mainly boat rides, with a couple more adventurous attractions as well. Hong Kong Disneyland is currently under construction in China.
