We begin with attractions.  What is there to see in Milan?  Your first stop should be to the Teatro alla Scala.  This opera house is home to the memory of composer Verdi, and is renowned for Maria Callas¡¯s beginnings, one of the most magnificent voices to ever echo in its great auditorium.  It abruptly closed in 1943, during the First World War, and reopened in 1946 for a special performance.  It closed in 2002 for renovations and there are plans for its new reopening in December of 2004.  The architecture, one should note, is in the style of the great cathedrals of Europe.  This was probably because opera and music were both seen as gifts to and from God, and these theatres were built to honor and house that spirit for all who entered.

Italy is renowned for its art and scientific geniuses such as Michelangelo and Da Vinci.  It will hold for the thrill seeker a vast array of galleries and museums to spend hours gazing at the beauty and fortitude of the artists of the Baroque and Renaissance eras.  The museum to put first on your list is the National Museum of Science and Technology, or Museo Nazionale della Scienza e Tecnica.  This museum houses some of the grandest and most elaborate achievements of the past.  These include the technical drawings of Leonardo Da Vinci¡¯s machines and artwork.  On the ground floors is an interactive construct, which depicts the early stages of the first attempts at flight.  Another museum that should be on your list is the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, which is home to the works of Carravaggio, and Botticelli.  

Whether you are religious or not, you should take in the supreme majesty of the Duomo.  This gothic building has been an inspiration not only to the great poets, but also to any who dares to look upon her beauty and grace.  This massive cathedral is decorated with over 2,245 statues and 135 spires.  The Duomo¡¯s initial construction was in 1386, and finally completed in1809.  Some of its design is comprised of intricate details provided by the great Michelangelo.

If exhausted with the statues and buildings, then take some time and explore the urban lifestyle of Milan¡¯s people.  Stop by the Latin Quarter to wander around this area full of vendors and shops to wet your appetite for the latest fashions and the most delicious Italian cuisine.  At night, the place is booming with life, and music pours out from the caf¨¦¡¯s and nightclubs, enrapturing the tourist in a spell of intrigue and sensational delights.  Go dancing at the Capolinea nightclub, or take in a show at the Piccolo Teatro.  After all that shopping and sight seeing, take in a nice dinner at Antica Trattoria della Pesa.  This restaurant offers authentic Old Milan style dishes, and has been in business for over one hundred years.  This restaurant is going to cost you anywhere from 12-17 Euros.   If you are seeking to keep to a budget, another place of interest to sate your hunger is Da Abele.  For as low as 7-12 Euros you can indulge in fine risottos dishes, and dine in a relaxed informal atmosphere.
