Utah is a beautiful western state that has a lot to offer travelers.  There are numerous national parks/monuments and other beautiful scenery in the mountains.  Utah has something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Arches National Park is located near Moab, Utah which is in the southern half of the state.  This park offers hiking, biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing among some of the most amazing natural stone arches in the country.  The signature arch is called Delicate Arch and is named such because of its delicate state.  With natural erosion, this arch will not always be.  Also due to the natural erosion, this national park warrants many visits as the terrain is always changing.  

Bryce Canyon National Park is located southeast of Panguitch, Utah.  This canyon has many breathtaking views that contain amazing rock formations.  It is called a canyon, but is not in technical terms a canyon, but rather the edge of a plateau.  It was named after an early rancher who discovered it.  Through the national park, there is a 37 mile scenic drive.  There are also hiking trails and places for horseback riding, mountain biking, and off roading.  

Canyonlands National Park stretches between Moab and Monticello Utah.  Both the Green and Colorado Rivers run through this national park.  Like the other national parks in Utah, Canyonlands contains breathtaking views of unique rock formations.  There is also hiking, biking, off roading, and even river rafting.  The views here are something not to be missed.

Capital Reef National Park is located about 10 miles east of Torrey, Utah.  This national park is known for its sandstone formations and the 100 mile bulge in the Earth¡¯s crust.  There is a 25 mile scenic drive through this park for a minimal fee.  There are also guided walks, fishing, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding and more.

Zion National Park is located about 60 miles south of Cedar City.  This is Utah¡¯s oldest national park.  Zion is best known for its slot canyons known as ¡°The Narrows¡± which lures many hikers each year.  There are several hiking trails winding within this national park, one of which takes hikers into ¡°The Narrows¡± by way of the Virgin River.  This is a wet hike, but well worth it for anyone who takes it.  There are also mountain biking and outdoor workshops for visitors.

Dinosaur National Monument is the largest quarry of dinosaur fossils ever discovered.  Visitors can see paleontologists chip away at the stone trying to uncover more fossils.  They are also taken through the cleaning and preservation process for bones that are unearthed.  There are several short hiking trails as well and white water rafting is a popular past time on the Green and Yampa Rivers.  

Golden Spike National Historic Site commemorates one of the biggest accomplishments in this country¡¯s history.  It marks the meeting of the first trans-continental railway.  The main attraction to this site is the two working replicas of the 1869 steam locomotives that met on these tracks on May 10, 1869.  Each year, on this date, the site hosts a reconstruction of this event.  The locomotives are also brought nose to nose on a daily basis.  There is also a 6 mile auto tour and a gift shop at this location.

If you venture to Salt Lake City, a great place to visit is Temple Square.  The pioneers built this area from 1853-1892.  They used oxen to haul the granite blocks 15 miles from the canyons and painted the grain on the wood by hand to make it look like genuine oak.  The temple is outfitted with an 11,000 pipe tabernacle organ, only of which 10 are still working.  It is now home to the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  

Utah has many amazing things to see.  From the hands of nature, carving out the sandstone into breathtaking formations, to the hands of man, building amazing structures in a time when technology was limited.  There is truly something for everyone in Utah.
