Walt Disney World opened its gates in 1976 to rave reviews and has welcomed adoring visitors from around the world in droves ever since. When it opened, Walt Disney World had just one theme park--The Magic Kingdom. Although Walt Disney World has grown to include three other major parks as well as waterparks and an entertainment complex, The Magic Kingdom still enchants visitors of all ages.
The Magic Kingdom is divided into seven distinct areas¡ªMain Street, Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Mickey¡¯s Toontown Fair, Liberty Square, and Frontierland. New exhibits and areas are added regularly and existing exhibits are continuously updated. Whenever you go to The Magic Kingdom, whether this is your first or your fifteenth, there is always something new to learn and to amaze you.
Visitors enter The Magic Kingdom via Main Street, a turn of the (19th) century small-town thoroughfare. Main Street is lined with shops, arcades, and snack stands. Most of the services--lost and found, stroller rental, free maps and information-¨Care located along Main Street. This is also the site of the daily Disney parade. Character sightings are frequent along this stretch. Keep your eyes open for Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, or Nemo. Main Street leads you to Cinderella¡¯s castle, that timeless icon of the Disney parks.
On the other side of the castle lies Fantasyland. This area is full of rides ¨C The ¡°Mad Hatter¡¯s Tea Party,¡± ¡°Dumbo the Flying Elephant¡± as well as ¡°It¡¯s a Small World.¡± Have lunch with Cinderella and her friends in the castle, or ride through Snow White¡¯s Adventures. Fantasyland is all about fun.
Just off of Fantasyland is Liberty Square. This area is home to the ¡°Hall of Presidents,¡± where life-like mechanical replicas of the presidents talk about the milestones in American history. Also worth a visit in Liberty Square is the ¡°Haunted Mansion.¡± This fun, not quite spooky, romp is delightful in its special effects with ghosts jumping out at you and vignettes of dancing ghosts.
Mickey¡¯s Toontown Fair is the newest area to be added to The Magic Kingdom. Here you can meet Mickey Mouse is his own environment, tour Mickey¡¯s and Minnie Mouse¡¯s houses, and ride a child-size roller coaster. The smallest area of the park, Mickey¡¯s Toontown is the character greeting headquarters. Here characters are available to guests on a continuing and reliable schedule for photos and autographs.
Leaving Toontown, you enter Tomorrowland. Tomorrowland is filled with rides and experiences relating to the technological development of man. This is a ¡°Buck Rogers¡± type view of the future, rather what the dreamers and scientists of the 1920s and 1930s imagined space travel to be. Tomorrowland is the home of The Magic Kingdom¡¯s most popular ride, ¡°Space Mountain,¡± the exhilarating, inside roller coaster that runs in the dark. Also in Tomorrowland is the ¡°Alien Encounter,¡± a theater-in-the-round horror show.
Adventureland is a combination African Safari and New Orleans Caribbean atmosphere. Ride the ¡°Jungle Cruise¡± here, a stylized version of the African Queen, complete with menacing hippos and hostile natives. Relax and enjoy the enchanted Tiki Birds, an early Disney animation project that still enthralls guests. Cruise through the adventures of the ¡°Pirates of the Caribbean,¡± the ride that inspired the movie.
Complete your visit to The Magic Kingdom with a stroll into Frontierland, a Disney version of American¡¯s wild west. Cool off by riding ¡°Splash Mountain,¡± an indoor/outdoor water adventure ride. Also fun is the ¡°Thunder Mountain Railroad¡± roller coaster. Complete your Frontierland visit with the ¡°Country Bear Jamboree,¡± a fifteen-minute country hoedown theater show hosted by animated bears.
Whenever your visit The Magic Kingdom, you¡¯re sure to find something new and interesting. Disney¡¯s attention to the smallest detail is remarkable and their dedication to their guests¡¯ having a good time makes a trip to Disney fun, fun, fun.
