At the Louisiana State Oil and Gas Museum, you will learn all about the history of the region, from the time when the Caddo Indians occupied the land to the 20th century oil boom. An interesting exhibit demonstrating how oil is pumped out of the ground is one of the main features. 3015 Greenwood Road.

To see and smell a delightful botanical garden, try visiting the Barnwell Garden and Art Center. In addition to its garden conservatory, featuring both tropical and native plants, you can pay a visit to the Fragrance Garden, which was created especially with the visually impaired in mind. 601 Clyde Fant Parkway.

Historical Sites

You can¡¯t visit Shreveport without visiting the Pioneer Heritage Center. Here, you can see buildings from the 1830¡¯s to the 1860¡¯s, giving you an authentic sense of what pioneer life was like in Louisiana over one hundred years ago. Imagine, no air conditioning! Located on the LSU campus, at One University Place. 

If you like historic churches, you should visit both the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Antioch Baptist Church. The Holy Trinity is the oldest church in the area, and has a stunning display of over 60 stained glass windows. It is located at 315 Marshall. The Antioch is the oldest African-American church in Shreveport. This treasure can be found at 1057 Texas Avenue. Both churches are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Bring your camera! 

For entertainment with a twist of history, visit the Municipal Auditorium, which features a broad variety of musical shows from which you may choose. This is the former home of the Louisiana Hayride, so don¡¯t yall miss it. 705 Elvis Presley.
