Very few cities in the world signify fun to the masses that way Las Vegas does. It¡¯s a town built on dreams and desires and has become the world¡¯s playground. Vegas is a show that never ends and people come from all walks of life to experience it. There¡¯s plenty here for everyone and every tax bracket and amazingly enough, quite of bit of it is easy on the pocket book, which just about anyone can appreciate.

First of all, just because you¡¯ve come to Vegas doesn¡¯t mean that you necessarily need to leave the kids at home. There are quite a few family friendly places all in the heart of Sin City. The famous Lied Discovery Children¡¯s Museum on North Las Vegas Blvd, is a destination that can take up the entire day. The museum creates many interactive experiences to draw children in and let the young (and young at heart) imagination go wild with possibilities. The Lied Museum even has a special Desert Discovery tour specifically for children ages 5 and under. Every month new activities are planned that are sure to engage children and stimulate interest in the arts and sciences. 

Another child friendly venue includes the Adventure Dome at Circus Circus. This 5 acre indoor theme park is comfortable even on the hottest summer day. Between the rides and the carnival games, there¡¯s enough to keep your little camper busy for hours. Please bear in mind however that the Adventure Dome is not a place to simply drop your children off on your way to the tables and machines. Kids need to be supervised at all times while enjoying the Adventure Dome both for the safety of the child and for your peace of mind. The same holds true for Wet and Wild Water Park. Wet and Wild is located a block from Circus Cirus, along the strip and vacationing families have been enjoying this spot for years. It boasts many water slides and tubes along with a meandering river that one can lay back and float in for hours. Wet and Wild is seasonally open for water play from May to October every year.

Now that you¡¯ve bonded with your family, you can call your concierge and have baby-sitting arranged (or bring one with you) so you can go play. First you have to consider what exactly you and the other adults in your party want to do. It¡¯s really easy to just head to the slots and tables but Vegas has much more to offer than just gaming. 

Shopping is abundant throughout the city, particularly in the touristy areas. There are the fabulous stores at the Forum Shops at Caesar¡¯s Palace. Shopping here is an interesting experience since free shows take place at either end of the shopping center. The Festival Fountains and The Fall of Atlantis shows are fun to watch and a nice break between browsing through the trendy stores and boutiques.  Paris, New York New York, Bellagio and almost every other resort/casino offer many of the same upper tier shopping opportunities. There is also the Boulevard Mall, one of Nevada¡¯s largest shopping centers which affords a wider range of shopping choices for those that can¡¯t afford a closet full of Prada. For bargain hunters, the Las Vegas Outlet Center is located on the southern end of the Strip and here you will find incredible prices for upscale merchandise such as Wedgewood, Saks Fifth Avenue and Waterford.

There are quite a few museums such as the Liberace Museum close to Las Vegas Blvd, The Hollywood Movie Museum next to the Convention Center and on the outskirts of Las Vegas, the Thunderbird Museum at Nellis Air Force Base.  Las Vegas is proud of its history and many of its museums celebrate the proud past of this oasis in the desert.

Shows are another reason many people head to Las Vegas. There are so many to see at any one time, it would take weeks for a tourist to see everything and everyone performing in the many venues throughout the city. One thing that you must remember is that many of the truly famous shows such as Wayne Newton at the Stardust, book up well in advance; however, it never hurts to ask your concierge or to check through the Las Vegas travel guides that you will find all over to town, to see if something is available. These shows are the biggest expense a Vegas tourist may encounter.

Of course one can¡¯t visit Las Vegas without taking a chance on Lady Luck herself. Slot machines and video poker are everywhere you look. You will find them at the McDonalds, the convenience store and the airport. If you want to gamble, there are ways to limit your losses and add value to your trip. After looking around, find a casino you feel comfortable (or lucky) at. Once you¡¯ve done that, register for the house slot (and video poker) or players (table games) club. These memberships track your play and help give you credit good for food, lodging and merchandise. This way, the money you may lose isn¡¯t entirely gone. A player doesn¡¯t get dollar for dollar credit for play but it does add up quickly. In 24 hours of ¡°rated¡± play, with limited funds, I managed to earn a free night at the hotel and dinner as well. Another way to inhibit your losses is to try and play games that reduce the casino¡¯s house edge. Video poker has better odds for the player than slot machines just as craps and black jack are better table bets for the player than roulette. Most bookstores have literature that explains gambling odds and how to limit your losses.

As stated above, just about anything and everything can be found in Las Vegas with something to please even the most difficult person. There are free shows at many of the resorts and most ticketed attractions are very reasonable in cost. A visitor should come to Las Vegas with an open mind that is ready to be entertained and he or she will not be disappointed.
