Treasure Island, now known as TI, was opened by Steven Wynn on October 27, 1993 during an explosive decade when the Vegas strip was transformed by exclusive hotel casinos, including The Mirage, Luxor, MGM Grand, New York New York and The Bellagio.
The $450 million hotel and casino was built around an ¡°Elegant Caribbean Hideaway¡± theme that bares a lot of resemblance to the ¡°Pirates of the Caribbean.¡± There is even a pirate ship that sets the stage for a nightly pirate show, complete with acrobatics and pyrotechnics.
In an effort to revamp Treasure Island and achieve a more adult-friendly image, Treasure Island spent $65 million to renovate and promote the new image of TI in 1999. The change meant sexier advertisements and a new pirate ship show, The Sirens of TI. The new performance has a lot more sex appeal and is about a clash between pirates and a group of scantily clad sirens. The show is still free, but may not be appropriate for small children. According to Fodor¡¯s, ¡°The show is trite, with bad sound, so if you want something more sophisticated and jaw-dropping, see the Cirque de Soleil production of Mystere.¡±
Mystere was Cirque de Soliel¡¯s first permanent show in Las Vegas. The 72 member cast performs twice a night at Treasure Island on Wednesdays through Sundays. The show features acrobatics, dancing and music. Mystere is an 8 time winner of the ¡°Best Production Show¡± by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
According to Fodor¡¯s Travel Guide, Mystere ¡°¡is a uniquely memorable experience bound to please all ages.¡±
Treasure Island¡¯s newest bar, Tangerine Lounge, has burlesque performances four times an evening, with the first show starting at 10:45 p.m. There are no shows on Sunday and Monday nights.
Tangerine features an indoor lounge and an outside deck that overlooks the pirate ship outside Treasure Island. The deck provides a great view of the nightly show, Sirens of TI.
Tangerine is a great place to sit back, enjoy a daiquiri and listen to music reminiscent of the 1920¡¯s.
Another after-hours hot spot is Mist, an intimate, but casual lounge at Treasure Island. Try one of Mist¡¯s specialty martinis, including the Sub Zero Martini, which blends Malibu Rum, Bacardi Orange Rum, Hypnotiq and a splash of pineapple juice. Mist hosts ¡°The Gong Show: Karaoke Style¡± on the third Monday of every month.
Treasure Island features a variety of dining experiences, from elegant dining at Buccaneer Bay, a gourmet restaurant featuring delicious seafood dishes to Kahunaville, a tropical escape featuring exotic drinks and casual fare. Other dining options include Francesco¡¯s, a fine dining experience featuring Italian-American cuisine and Isla, voted ¡°Best Mexican Restaurant in Las Vegas,¡± by the Las Vegas Life Magazine.
There is more to the 3,105 room hotel and casino than slot machines and entertainment. Treasure Island offers a variety of amenities to make the most of your trip. If you are planning a wedding, Treasure Island has a variety of options, including a ceremony in one of their wedding chapels or on the famous pirate ship. If you are in the mood to relax, check out the hotel's spa or salon for a rejunivating body treatment. |
