Chattanooga, Tennessee is set against the backdrop of the beautiful Smokey Mountains. The city has all the charm and hospitality that you would expect from the South, and it also has plenty of activities for every member of your family to enjoy. 

You can plan to stay at one of the many area hotels and bed and breakfasts inns, or you can rent one of the quaint mountain cabins or chalets.  The chalets and cabins offer breathtaking views of the mountains and the winding river below. 

Once you have settled into Chattanooga, you might want to begin your vacation with a drive to the top of Lookout Mountain. There are so many activities to see and do once you reach the top.

Head over to Rock City. Here you¡¯ll follow hiking trails until you reach the peak, which looks out over the valley. Lovely flowers and other vegetation are planted along the trails of Rock City Gardens. The views are breathtaking. You can even cross a swinging bridge. You¡¯ll find plenty of photo opportunities along the way. 

Ruby Falls is also located on Lookout Mountain. At Ruby Falls, you¡¯ll follow a path tunneled into the earth. Once you reach the cavern, you¡¯ll see the luminescent falls. This attraction is a must do!

Don¡¯t forget to ride the Lookout Mountain Incline Railway. You can board the railway from the bottom or the top of Lookout Mountain. As you ride it, your conductor will give you a narrative history of Chattanooga. Once you¡¯ve ridden one way, you can hop off and board again later, or you can simply stay seated for the return ride. 

Once you¡¯ve toured all of the attractions on top of Lookout Mountain, you need to experience all that the city of Chattanooga has to offer. In the downtown area, you can visit the Tennessee Aquarium. Here you¡¯ll find extraordinary sea horses, sea dragons, native aquatic life, and you can pet a few fish and other animals in the aquarium¡¯s touch tanks. 

Don¡¯t forget to visit the IMAX 3D theater. They usually have several movies that are showing. Kids of all ages love to explore the Creative Discovery Museum. In this museum, rooms are filled with all sorts of hands-on activities. The hardest time you¡¯ll have will be getting your kids to leave at the end of the day!

No visit to Chattanooga would be complete without a trip to see the Chattanooga Choo Choo. You can also see a variety of animals at the Chattanooga Zoo. If you are lucky, you might even be in Chattanooga during one of the city¡¯s riverfront festivals. As you roam around downtown, you can check out the many shops and restaurants available. 

If you want to venture out from the city to do a little more exploration, head over to some of the many caves in the area. Raccoon Mountain Caverns and Cumberland Caverns are two wonderful tourist hotspots just waiting for you to explore. If you really love adventure, be sure to plan a visit to the Ocoee River. There are several whitewater rafting outfits just waiting to take you on the ride of your life. If you desire something of a slower pace, however, you can float a calmer part of the river on inner tubes. Just kick back, keep your feet up, relax, and float to your heart¡¯s content. 

Finally, one of Chattanooga¡¯s nearby secrets is Lake Winnepesaukah. This affordable amusement park is nestled among many trees and surrounds Lake Winnie. Only open certain days of the week, the park has a rollercoaster, several water rides, sky lift, paddle boats, many other rides for all ages, and lots of games. Bring your picnic lunch, and plan to spend the day.
