Downtown Mystic is filled with unique shops that highlight local artists.  Fashion, jewelry, home d¨¦cor, outlet and souvenir stores all beg for attention.  Stop at the candy store for a chocolates heart or two, share a milkshake or hot cider while watching the hourly opening of the downtown drawbridge and never miss the opportunity to purchase a rose at the local florist.

During summer and fall months, downtown Mystic is home to frequent festivals. Streets are closed off and couples can enjoy the opportunity to walk through exhibits, craft booths, wine and food tasting as well as enjoy local entertainment.  For a fee, a sailing tour of Mystic, it¡¯s charm and historical development can be enchanting.  Scary October evening cemetery tours may lead to cuddling to ease each other¡¯s fears.  And, even during New England winters, Mystic is filled with holiday cheer; don¡¯t miss Santa¡¯s tugboat arrival and the opportunity to tell him what you really want.

Though beachfront is rare in Mystic, there are a number of paths along the shore for a morning jog.  Kayaks, canoes and ski-dos are available for rent, as well as bicycles ¨C even those built for two.  Local parks offer picnic areas and places for volleyball, a pick up game of football or kite flying.

When hunger strikes, the restaurant decision will prove daunting.  Everything from crab cake sandwiches on the go to a candle-lit dinner overlooking the Mystic River can be found.  Lobster bisque, chowder and mussels are the stars of Mystic but there is a large menu selection for dining.  Leave room for specialty pastry and coffee shops that pepper the downtown and tourist areas.  Local vineyards offer tours and tastings for those who require a little of this or that and many stores carry the local bottles for those on the go.

The Mystic Aquarium is a heart-warming, self-guided attraction.  Whale and dolphin shows or the penguin antics will be certain to bring a smile to your face.  Plus a special Titanic exhibit will bring out the emotions in everyone.

To make a celebration extra special, many of the local inns and hotels offer romantic packages including accommodations, dinner, and area tickets.  Many packages include a quick escape from Mystic up to the world¡¯s largest casinos, Foxwoods and/or Mohegan Sun.  After winning at your game of choice, people watch with a cocktail at some of the specialty bars and dance the night away at any of the nightclubs.
