Free activities:

Building a sandcastle is a classic beach activity. Every does it and everyone loves it! You can challenge your family to a castle-building competition to see whose is best, or you can work together as a family to try and build the best sandcastle on your stretch of the beach. It's even fun to go back the next morning and see if it's still standing.

Hunting for crabs is a great late night or early morning activity. All the amphibious sea creatures get washed ashore with the tide and are scurrying about the beach after dark and before sunrise. Bring a flashlight, a camera, and be sure to wear protective shoes. Your kids will love the hunt!

Collecting seashells is a great way to keep your kids occupied. They will find a never ending supply of sea shells, sand dollars and they'll probably even find fish bones and other fun stuff. While you could a small amount of money buying bucket for carrying the shells, you could also just bring a plastic or paper grocery sack or lunch bag to carry them in. Bonus: the shells they find are free souvenirs to take home!

Extremely cheap activities:

Feeding the seagulls will only cost as much as does a loaf of cheap bread. Most kids love to see animals up close, and there is no better way to get an animal to come closer than to offer it some food. To keep from getting hit with bird droppings, try feeding them from the safety of your hotel room balcony or window. They'll come and perch on the rails, close enough to be fun but far enough away to keep your family clean!

Playing games always brings the family closer together. You should bring board games for something to do at night in the hotel room but think of other types of games as well. Maybe you could bring water guns, beach balls or Frisbees and invent your own games.

Activities that you won't mind paying for:

Snorkeling is fun and educational. You and your family will get to see all kinds of underwater sea creatures, and maybe even feed them too. Look in the phone book provided by your hotel or on the internet before you arrive to look up paid tours and snorkel gear rental companies.

Dolphin watching is another good paid activity that's fun and educational. Kids will get to se dolphins in their natural habitat! Once again, use a phone book or the internet to find tour in the area of your vacation destination

Since you are so near so much sea life, chances are the beach you're going to will have an aquarium nearby. For a small admissions charge, your kids will get to see hundreds of sea creatures and read fun facts about them. It could occupy hours of your time!

Surfing lessons are a great activity for older kids or athletically talented kids. It something they can't experience at home and it'll make for great pictures and great memories. Check the phone book or internet for equipment rental companies and instructors.

No vacation is complete without a little souvenir shopping! Cheap souvenirs are widely available in any popular vacation spot.
