You don＊t have to travel outside of the state to enjoy a day＊s vacation.  Michigan has several attractions right within its borders.    

Ann Arbor 每 Home to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor exhibits all the diversity and culture one would expect from a college town.  Simply walk the downtown streets and sample the variety from coffee shops to independent bookstores, or perhaps check out a student art exhibit or play production.

Battle Creek 每 Battle Creek is the home of Kellogg＊s, a fact that is celebrated at the museum/factory tour Cereal City USA.  The Binder Park Zoo is also a popular local attraction.  

Detroit 每 Museums in the city include the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Science Center, the Museum of African American History, and the Holocaust Memorial Center.  Greektown and other ethnic areas are the places to go for great food.  Detroit is also home to the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions for those who would like to see some professional sports action.  Finally, the Detroit Zoo is the premiere zoo in the state.

Lansing 每 Lansing＊s biggest attraction is perhaps the State Capitol Building, where generations have learned about government firsthand.  For the kids, Impressions 5 museum offers a unique hands-on science experience and the Potter Park Zoo will let them view their favorite animals up close.  Sports fans can check out Lugnuts baseball or a Michigan State University sporting event in nearby East Lansing.

Mackinac Island 每 Take a ferry from Mackinaw City to this unique island where automobiles are prohibited and arts and crafts abound.  Enjoy a carriage ride, visit historic Fort Mackinac, and don＊t forget to take home some of the island＊s famous fudge.  The Grand Hotel is the place to stay if you decide to extend your ※day trip.§  The Mackinac Bridge connecting Michigan＊s upper and lower peninsulas is also impressive in its own right, and is worth driving across while you＊re in the area.     

Traverse City 每 Traverse City is the place to go for enjoying nature, golf, cherries and arts and crafts.  It is most famous for the National Cherry Festival held here each July.  Traverse City is also located near Sleeping Bear Dunes, a National Lakeshore including 35 miles of Lake Michigan＊s eastern coast.  

Northern Ohio and Illinois are within easy driving distance of many areas in Michigan, opening up even more possibilities for quick trips.

Cedar Point (Sandusky, OH) 每 Cedar Point is arguably one of the world＊s best amusement parks.  With 16 roller coasters and 67 total rides, you can spin and soar all day.  For those who aren＊t thrill-seekers, Camp Snoopy provides fun for the kids, and musical shows and artisans can also help you pass the time.  Soak City is the park＊s companion water park.

Chicago 每 The famous shopping, restaurants and cultural events of the downtown area mix with lakefront parks, historic architecture, and ethnic neighborhoods to offer something for every taste.  Train and bus lines even make it possible to visit Chicago without dealing with traffic and parking.

Cleveland 每 This city＊s main attraction is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, although it also has the usual restaurants, shopping and other attractions that any large city offers.

Michigan offers the unique advantage of being located within driving distance of Canada.  It＊s possibly the easiest way of saying that you＊ve visited a foreign country, but it also means that some great destinations can be reached in a day.

Niagara Falls 每 During the day, ride the Maid of the Mist for an amazing view of the Falls.  At night, walk around the park to see the spectacular lighting effects.  If you want to visit Buffalo, NY, or view the falls from the American side, driving through Canada to reach New York is still the fastest way to make the trip.

Stratford 每 The town of Stratford, Ontario is renowned for its theater.  Each season＊s productions feature works from Shakespeare, Broadway productions and many others.    The town of Stratford is a quaint destination in its own right, with fun shops and a scenic river.

Windsor 每 Located minutes from Detroit, its main attraction is its casinos and nightlife.
