San Jose, Costa Rica has many tourist attractions and sightseeing locations, as well as museums and galleries. These locations vary in interest from a butterfly garden to an art museum.

Rain Forest Aerial Tram Day Trip offers the visitor an opportunity to visit the jungle by aerial tram, which allows an up-close view of the rainforest¡¯s canopy. This trip includes an 80-minute tram ride, nature walks and a meal.
Pueblo Antiquo is a theme park offering color, music and food while presenting aspects of the culture and history of the area set in a city, in the countryside and along the Caribbean coast all along the turn of the century. Visitors here will enjoy the architecture of the era, folklore dances and songs, carnivals, fireworks, boat rides and more.
Cartago was discovered in 1563 by the Spanish and remained an important city until the 19th century when it much of it was destroyed by an earthquake. After the earthquake, the city remained a provincial capital with a few of the architectural wonders of previous times that retain the colonial atmosphere.
The Original Canopy Tour offers visitors the opportunity to explore the rainforest canopy by traveling from one giant tree to the next and witnessing all that occupies it, including all the fauna and flora that live in this environment.
Parque Nacional Braulio Carrillo is a national wildlife reserve and is home to monkeys, quetzals, jaguars and other animals. The Rain Forest Aerial Tram is located here as well as cabins and a restaurant.
The painter and architect, Francisco Salazar, built Templo de la Musica, which is an imitation of the temple of love and music in Versailles. In the early 1900¡¯s this temple was used for political speeches and exchanges of power, then later became used for concerts and serenades by the city band and the national orchestra.
Barva de Heredia is a village with a big colonial architecture history. The buildings here are very old and are examples of the colonial architecture and history of the area. This entire village is considered a national monument.
Volcan Irazu became a national park in 1970 and includes Parque Volcan Irazu, which is an active volcano as well as hiking opportunities to witness the effects this volcano has had on the area.
Serpentario Nacional de Costa Rica, the snake museum, offers live exhibits of Costa Rican snakes as well as other reptiles.
El Valle del Rio Orosi is an excellent escape from the city. This valley offers the visitor beautiful landscape views, warm springs, parks and a colonial village.
Heredia is a colonial town that has also been damaged by an earthquake, but is more intact than several other colonial towns. Restaurants and shopping are available here.
Cyber Caf¨¦ is available for visitors who need access to the internet while in San Jose.
Orosi is a village that is centuries old and is surrounded by coffee plantations and mountains. Visitors here will enjoy whitewashed adobe buildings and a much slower pace of life than the city.
Museo de los Ninos is a children¡¯s museum that offers exhibits for the visitor up to 12 years of age. These exhibits range from children¡¯s culture and rights to science, music and geography.
Museo de Arte Costarricense, is the museum of the national arts heritage of Costa Rica. Here the visitor will find Costa Rican art as well as foreign art in the form of sculptures, paintings and woodcarvings. Concerts and conferences are also held here.
Museo de Jade is a museum tailored around jade objects made by native Costa Rican indigenous people. This museum also has exhibits of pottery and metal works that are from the same time- period as the jade exhibits.
Museo de Criminologia offers the visitors exhibits intended to be warnings to anyone contemplating committing a crime. These exhibits are grisly in nature and are not for the faint of heart.
Museo de Arte y Diseno Contemporaneo offers exhibits of contemporary national and international art. This museum is located in a complex that also houses the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport offices, as well as theaters and other cultural facilities.
Arte Latino houses original artwork paintings by Costa Rican and Nicaraguan artists. The visitor here has the opportunity to purchase authentic Central American artwork very reasonably.
Galeria Ocelote, located close to the Barcelo Amon Plaza Hotel, was created for the promotion of graphic arts and Latin American original handcrafts.
