Arts& Entertainment

Sundance Square, located in downtown Fort Worth, is a 20-block market place filled with many shops, entertainment venues and restaurants that attracts many tourists and local patrons as well. Featured spots include night clubs, comedy clubs, and caf¨¦s with acts by locally and nationally known artists. Bass Performance Hall, located on Commerce Street, hosts the he finest plays and classical music performances 

The Stockyards Museum holds many artifacts and history of the old west. Exhibits such as one on Quanah Parker, can enlighten anyone interested in the cowboy era. Located in the Livestock Exchange Building, visitors will have a deeper understanding of the old west as it relates to Fort Worth and Texas history.

The heart of  old west entertainment lies in the world famous Billy Bob¡¯s Texas. This family oriented restaurant and bar is part of Fort Worth¡¯s history. Having once been a barn in the early 1900s, not many people know that the stadium seating provided for live concerts used to be a sloping floor for cattle once housed there. With a couple of dance floors, visitors can be found doing the Texas two-step while children and those young at heart can enjoy the many video games found in the arcade. A trip to Billy Bob¡¯s would not be complete without at least one attempt to ride the mechanical bull.

A Peek into the Cowboy Life

The Fort Worth Stockyards, located in the National Historic District, is home to all cowboys and cowboy lovers. Because of its real life Wild West atmosphere one would expect to find a shout out at high noon.

Since the hosting of its first rodeo in 1918, every Friday and Saturday night throughout the year the Cowtown Coliseum showcases its Stockyard Championship Rodeo. With there being more to a rodeo than just bull riding, other features include barrel racing, calf roping, and steer wrestling. 

If you want a real cowboy experience, then head to the Stockyard Arena and Stables. Horseback rides are relatively cheap and are priced on a per hour basis as well as in 15 and 30 minute intervals for children. Visitors, along with the assistance of a guide, can ride their own horses along the banks of the Trinity River. If you are strapped for cash, no need to worry since the arena puts on a free Team Roping Competition every Friday night and Saturday afternoon throughout the year. On some Sundays, the youth rodeo takes over, putting on a show featuring young 5014 year old cowboys and cowgirls.

Something for the Kids

Kids of all ages will enjoy their time checking out all of the exotic animals at the Fort Worth Zoo. Having 15 permanent exhibits, such as Texas Wild!, the Zoo also hosts trips around the world such as visiting a real life Safari trip to Kenya. Admission prices are very reasonable with children 2 years old and younger getting in for free. By contacting the zoo, you can find out when discounts such as half-price admission are offered.

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has its own Omni Theater showcasing different films and documentaries with subjects ranging from the deep sea to earthquakes and even the mysteries of Egypt. It also exhibits the Noble Planetarium with state of the art special effects so patrons can learn about and explore the world of the outer space. 

Open only from the spring to the fall, the Stockyard Amusement Park for children displays a western theme. If you are in the mood for more rides, not too far away is Six Flags Over Texas. This Six Flags, unlike the others around the country, has a central theme of the Wild West.
