Many inventions have come from entrepreneurs in Akron, Ohio, and they include ice cream cones, hamburgers, and the first breakfast cereal (which today is known as Quaker Oats). 

If you're interested in listening to fine symphony, as well as choral, music, you can visit the Akron Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has been run the Greater Akron Musical Association (GAMA) for over fifty years.

Since 1953, The Akron Zoo has been entertaining the young and the old alike. It has a Monkey Island, Tiger Valley, otters, wallabies, lemurs, parrots, owls, panda bears, lions, tigers, alligators, and much, much more!

The company that makes the ever-popular Quaker Oats breakfast cereal got its start in Akron, Ohio. The company's mills, silos, and offices were left standing empty after the company moved to Chicago in 1970.  

While that information may not sound interesting, what is amazing is that, today, the one hundred and twenty foot tall silos, that are twenty four feet in diameter, plus the other buildings, are the unique Crowne Plaza Quaker Square complex.

Located right in downtown Akron, the complex houses a plush hotel, (this hotel has round rooms since it's made of silos), restaurants, banquet rooms, shops, a swimming pool, an exercise room,       

and more! 

You can eat your meal in a real railroad car at one of the restaurants, named The Trackside Grill.  

And, in the basement of what was the Quaker Oats cereal factory, there is now The City Tavern. 

This tavern has walls that are more than three feet thick! You can enjoy a lunch or a scrumptious dinner at this fine eatery.  

Finally, if you're looking for another historical place to visit, Dr. Bob's Home, which is located at 855 Ardmore Avenue in Akron, might interest you. Dr. Bob began Alcoholics Anonymous. You can take a tour of the house and visit the gift shop before you leave. 

Or, you may choose to take a stroll in the Virginia Kendall Park. It has trails that you can explore while on foot or on horseback. 

As you can see Akron, Ohio, which used to be known as the Rubber City of the world, is full of entertainment for the young and the old alike!
