Natural beauty, coupled with urban cultural centers, make the state of Nebraska truly intriguing for the travel enthusiast. Below you will find points of interest located throughout the state.

Lincoln, Nebraska

Located in southeastern Nebraska, Lincoln is the capitol of the state. The state capitol building towers 400 feet over the entire city. The Historic Haymarket district established in 1867, is filled with shops, restaurants, and galleries. There are also many museums and historic sites in Lincoln such as the Museum of Nebraska History, University of Nebraska Museum, and the Great Plains Art Museum.

Omaha, Nebraska

Located about 60 miles northeast of Lincoln, there is much to do and see in Omaha. Noted for their world famous beef, Omaha also boasts many other find bistros serving a variety of cuisine and beverages.  From a cultural point of view you will find many museum and theaters. Listed below are some points of interest: Barnes Center for Contemporary Art, Durham Eastern Art Museum, Union Pacific Railroad Museum, and the Omaha Community Play House.

Northeastern Nebraska

Here you will find the town of Harrington, with its rolling prairies. This area is a haven for outdoor recreation.  I have listed some destinations below:

-Lewis and Clark Lake - Gavins Point Dam

About 25 minutes from Harrington, this lake provides many recreational opportunities such as, water skiing, fishing and swimming

-Ponca State Park

Located about 40 miles northeast of Harrington on Nebraska Highway 12 and S-26E.  This park provides magnificent views of the Missouri River - totally untamed - the way it looked before man had a chance to change it.

-Other points of interest in Harrington are, the Skylon Ballroom, Bow Valley Ballroom and the Cedar County Historical Museum.

Northwest Nebraska

The town of Chaldron is located just south of the Black Hills in the Pine Ridge Region.  This area is noted for its natural beauty and old west history.

Chrighton another town nestled in the northeastern region of Nebraska.  The following destinations are listed below:

-Ashfall State Park An ongoing paleontology excavation exists here.  Many fossil remains of rhinos, camels and turtles have been uncovered here.

-Winnetoon-In Winnetoon, you will find many historic old west buildings in a mini mall shopping atmosphere. This mall is famous for its many chainsaw wood carvings produced by their ¡°local chainsaw cowboy¡±. There are also many festivals in Chrighton such as Berry Pepper Days and the Santa Land Holiday light display.

Nebraska City

Located on the southeastern border of Nebraska.  Border Iowa and Missouri. Nebraska City is a small town,  Population 7,700; however since it is one of the oldest towns in Nebraska the town is rich with historic architecture. Some points of interest in Nebraska City are the following:

-Otoe County Courthouse- Built in 1865 this Georgian brick structure is the oldest public building in Nebraska.  Inside you will find photos and displays relative to the history of Nebraska City.

-River Country Nature Center-At the center you can observe over 400 specimens of native Nebraskan mammals, fish, birds, amphibians and reptiles.

In addition to the above areas, there are some excellent hiking trails in and around Nebraska City, displaying the local natural beauty of the countryside and wildlife.
