Ohio is the heart of it all, slammed in between the east coast and the Midwest. A great lake, Lake Erie lines the north edge of Ohio. To the south, the Ohio river snakes out a path with its eastern edge running into Appalachian territory. 

In between these two areas are cities alive with tourism and busy with many sights and sounds of an exciting life. 

Columbus

Columbus is the capital city in Ohio and that doesn¡¯t mean it¡¯s a boring place. There are many places to visit while in Columbus. See the Columbus Crew, a Major League Soccer team and America¡¯s hardest working team. Don¡¯t forget an Ohio State University football or basketball game. Visiting Ohio State University campus main will most certainly be an experience to remember. 

Downtown Columbus is no exception either. COSI, Center of Science and Industry is a major attraction to downtown Columbus. COSI has many fun activities for the whole family. 

Perhaps the nightlife is your thing to do. Visit the Arena District with all the buzz and glory of Nationwide Arena. Home to the Columbus Blue Jackets and many concerts each year, Nationwide Arena is the centerpiece of the Arena District. You can even book an ice-skating party at Nationwide¡¯s own skating rink. 

Cincinnati

Cincinnati lies on the Ohio River in the southwestern corner of Ohio. Cincinnati is filled with museums, art, entertainment and fun for all ages. 

Visit the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens, named one of the top ten zoos by Child Magazine. This is a large zoo with many activities and exhibits to see.

If you want to go back in time, when knights jousted for ladies¡¯ honor and when sword making was an art, visit nearby Harveysburg at summer¡¯s end. Here you will find the Ohio Renaissance Festival filled with jousting, fun activities and even old-fashioned rides for kids.

Close to Cincinnati lies Paramount¡¯s Kings Island, a theme park, and The Beach, a large water theme park with dozens of water slides and other water activities.

Cincinnati is also home to the NFL¡¯s Cincinnati Bengals and the Major League Baseball¡¯s Cincinnati Reds. 

Cleveland

Cleveland lies along Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes. Cleveland has something to do for everyone including kids. 

Cleveland is home to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There are various exhibits in the Hall of Fame including both permanent and traveling exhibitions. 

An hour away from Cleveland is Cedar Point, a theme park, home to the world¡¯s tallest, fastest and most roller coasters in one park. 

Other attractions in Cleveland include the Cleveland National Air Show, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Six Flags and Sea World of Ohio. 

Cleveland is home to the NFL¡¯s Cleveland Browns and MLB¡¯s Cleveland Indians. 

Other Cities in Ohio

There are many other cities in Ohio besides the ¡°three c¡¯s¡±. Here are a few along with ideas for attractions to visit. 

Toledo

Toledo is a northern Ohio city situated near Lake Erie on the lake¡¯s west side. Toledo is also known as the Glass City because of its glass related industries such as bottle and window making. 

Cedar Point is also close to Toledo, about an hour away. There are also the Toledo Zoo and Put-in-Bay, a major area used during the War of 1812. 

COSI, Center of Science and Industry, in Toledo has fun for the whole family. At COSI, science and engineering are intertwined with fun and hands on learning experiences. From sports to electricity, COSI makes science easy learning for kids of all ages.

Dayton

Dayton is home to the United States Air Force Museum located on Wright Patterson Air Force Base. The museum has hundreds of planes and missiles on display and many other exhibits showing the history of flight and the Air Force. 

Events like concerts are held each year at the Nutter Center located on Wright State University¡¯s campus.

The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is a natural history museum providing a look at our natural history through activities and exhibits.

Smaller cities worth visiting:

- Bowling Green: Right in the middle of an area once known as the Black Swamp, Bowling Green once had an oil boom that brought many people. These people built the mansions that still exist today in Bowling Green. 

- Chillicothe: Chillicothe was Ohio¡¯s original capital city. 

- Youngstown: Youngstown is home to the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor. This is a museum dedicated to the lives of men who built the steel and iron industries in the area.

- Canton: Canton is the home to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

- Akron: The National Inventors Hall of Fame is located in Akron. Akron is also famous for its tire history, and rubber production. 

- Athens: Home to the Ohio University, Athens history is rich and colorful. The beautiful Hocking Hills State Park is located close to Athens and is a great spot to enjoy fishing, hiking and some general camping and relaxation.

- Portsmouth: Located along the Ohio River, Portsmouth has a rich heritage of river related history. Portsmouth is located near the Shawnee State Park and Forest.
