Memphis, Tennessee has many fun things for children to do.  With its rich history and booming new development, Memphis has attractions to peak children¡¯s interest as well as teaching them a few things in the process.  Here are just a few of the things you can do with children in Memphis.

Take a riverboat ride

Visit the Pink Palace

The Pink Palace has many things to offer expanding young minds.  The museum has a great exhibit on dinosaurs.   The IMAX theatre will fascinate children with its four story high screen.  You can view films such as Mystery of the Nile, where children can follow explorers all the way down the 3,260 miles of the Nile to see its beauty and learn more of its history.  Visit memphismuseums for showtimes.  

Take in a Redbirds baseball game

The Memphis Redbirds are the triple A farm team for the Saint Louis Cardinals.  The Autozone Stadium has a boardwalk where kids can pitch a baseball to see what their speed is, play the basketball hotshot game and even take a swing in the batting cage.  Kids can climb the 24 foot climbing wall or ride on The Rockey Hopper.  For watching the game, there¡¯s P.D. Parrot's Playhouse Perch.   It is located on the west side and includes observation towers, slides and dugout seating.  There is also a kid¡¯s baseball diamond.  The best part of P.D. Parrot¡¯s Playhouse Perch is the parents can still see the game while watching the kids.  Visit the Redbirds home page at memphisredbirds.com for ticket information.

Visit Mud Island

Despite its unattractive name, Mud Island can be quite fun.  Unless they are afraid of heights, your kids will love the monorail ride to Mud Island.  If that is too scary, you can walk over on the walkway atop the monorail.  Children will enjoy wading down the 5 block long replica of the Mississippi River with historical references along the way.  The replica ends into the Gulf of Mexico where you can ride the pedal boats or get refreshments.  There is also a museum dedicated to life in the lower Mississippi River Valley.  Visit the Mud Island home page mudisland.com for more information.

Take them to the Children¡¯s Museum of Memphis

Don¡¯t tell the kids, but a trip to the Children¡¯s Museum of Memphis will not only be fun, but educational as well.  The museum hosts features such as the Bank, where kids can actually write their own checks and receive play money from an ATM, the Garage, where kids are able to ¡°build¡± cars and change tires, and the Growing Healthy tour, where kids can perform heart surgery!  The featured exhibit this summer is Play it by Ear that lets the children create their own melodies from with different instruments.

Go to a Memphis Grizzlies game

If you children like sports, they will love taking in a NBA game with the Grizzlies.  Kids will be thrilled to see NBA greats like Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant live in action.  The Memphis Grizzlies play in the FedEx Forum, on historic Beale Street and the season runs from October through May.  The Grizzlies home page is nba.com 

See the Wonders Exhibit

The Wonders Exhibit brings to Memphis the wonders of the world.  The summers exhibit is The Art of the Motorcycle, first presentede at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.  This exhibit studies the history of the motorcycle from late 1800¡¯s to today and is comprised of many artifacts related to the motorcycle.  The yearly exhibit began because of the great success of the original exhibit on Ramesses the Great.  Other past exhibits include Catherine the Great, Czars: 400 Years of Imperial Grandeur, Napoleon and the Titanic.
