Buffalo is a wonderful place to visit for old and young alike. Just a short drive from Buffalo is the most beautiful and famous Niagara Falls a must see for all ages. Niagara Falls actually consists of three falls called the American Falls located between Prospect Point and Luna Island; Canadian/Horseshoe Falls located between Goat Island and Table Rock; and Bridal Veil Falls located between Luna Island and Goat Island.
The Buffalo Science Museum will let your children journey back to the time of the dinosaurs, look at many endangered species, look at insects, and leap through space. Tifft Nature Preserve is a part of the museum and covers more than 260 acres of natural habitat.
The third oldest zoo in the United States is the Buffalo Zoological Gardens. The goal of the zoo is to treat the public to a recreational yet cultural and education experience with every visit. Its beginnings were in the Frederick Law Olmstead¡¯s Delaware Park where it began as a deer park. The Buffalo Zoo began in 1875. Over the years, it grew into a wonderful facility housing many animals, plants, habitats, and biomes. The zoo encompasses around 24 acres and is home to endangered, exotic, and local wildlife. Great difficulty is taken to make sure the environment for the animals is as close to the native habitat as possible. Some of the animals at the zoo are Asian elephants, pigmy zebu, Siberian tigers, many reptiles and amphibians. Also at the zoo are many species of birds such as plantain eaters, vultures, and teal.
Children's Museum is definitely a hands on museum. Here your children can explore, play, and learn. Included in this museum is a Fisher-Price toy collection and ToyWorks interactive learning center. Children¡¯s Museum is a wonderful treat for old and young.
Dunn Tire Park is home of the Cleveland Indians¡¯ Triple-A baseball team called the Buffalo Bisons. Bring your baseball fans and enjoy a minor league game.
Darien Lake Six Flags is well worth the visit for the whole family. Brand new for 2005 is the Tornado, which shoots its riders from a 70+-foot platform down into a 130-foot tunnel and into a rocking giant funnel of water. Once you make it through the funnel of water you go through the raging storm ending in a cool pool of water at the bottom. This ride is a tube ride and carries up to four people at a time. Some of the other rides are the Brain Teaser, Viper, Predator, Mind Eraser, Superman Ride of Steel, and the Boomerang Coast to Coaster. The Superman coaster is one of the tallest in the northeastern United States. The coaster reaches over 70 mph and climbs to a staggering height of 208 feet. Six Flags Darien Lake also has a large water park. If you buy a theme park admission, the water park is included free. Some of the rides at the water park are Crocodile Isle, which is a gigantic wave pool holding over 1,000,000 gallons of water. The wave pool offers a beautiful beach area to catch some sun or adventure into the pool and surf one of six different waves. Hook¡¯s Lagoon is a treasure trove of water fun three stories high consisting of Tiger Lilly Bay, S.S. Crocodile, and Hook¡¯s Hideout. Here you will blast people with water cannons, ride the slides, and climb ladders made of nets. If you are not careful though you could get totally soaked as the 1,000-gallon buckets tips every couple minutes. Barracuda Bay consists of five slides and offers thrilling falls and very fast turns. Darien Lake Six Flags is a must visit while in Buffalo. |
