The Capitol of California is not only a place for world representatives to convene with Governer Schwarzenagger over important issues, it's a great place for parents to bring their kids for a time they won't soon forget!

The Sacramento Zoo, Fairytale Town and Funderland - Go south of downtown to William Land Park and you will find all 3 of these children's hotspots within walking distance of one another. This outing will easily keep the kids busy for a full day of fun! For $10.00 (kids under 3 are free) you can purchase a ticket for both Fairytale Town and the Zoo. Fairytale Town is a 2.5 acre children's park with 25 play structures with fairytale themes. Kids can hide in the Sherwood Forest play fort, slide down the Old Woman's Shoe and walk down the Crooked Mile. There is also a petting zoo, children's theatre and an interactive children's garden. 

Next stop is the Sacramento Zoo with over 400 animals on 40 acres. When you enter you will be 

welcomed by dozens of beautiful flamingos swarming around a beautiful pond. The primate exhibit is always entertaining as well as the lion and giant armadillo! There is also a playground, sensory garden and ice cream station when you need to cool down. If your kids have a hard time walking all over those 40 acres you can rent a wagon and let them go for a carefree ride!

As if that wasn't enough there is still one more stop to make before you venture back to the hotel. Funderland Amusement park is within walking distance of the Zoo and Fairytale Land and admission is free! You can purchase a wristband for unlimited rides for $11.00 or individual tickets for $1.50 each. The park features 10 rides for little ones including a beautiful covered carousel, the Funderland train which circles around the entire park and the Log Flume, a water based ride for kids 2 & up. 

Old Town Sacramento - You're kids can experience the days of the California gold rush when they 

visit this historic part of downtown. Located on the Sacramento River, Old Town Sacramento features 100 restored historic buildings which house numerous novelty shops, restaurants and museums. The Public Market on the waterfront is a great place to shop or grab a bite to eat. At the far end of the dock you will find the world renowned California State Railroad Museum, a must see for little train enthusiasts! It costs $6.00 for adults, $2.00 for youths 6-17 and kids 5 and under are free. Inside you will see 21 beautifully restored antique locomotives and informative booths. 

The California State Capitol - Finally a trip to Sacramento would fall short without visiting California's Capitol building. The park grounds surrounding the Capitol provide for a wonderful stroll through the middle of downtown Sacramento. Bring a blanket and pack a lunch and you can stop for a picnic anywhere along the park's beautifully manicured lawn. The Capitol building is an impressive sight and may inspire an interesting conversation with the kids about politics and world issues. An experience that's both fun and educational!
