If city life beckons, visit the state's capital of Oklahoma City.  In the Bricktown district, restored warehouses and other buildings now offer an active nightlife.  Live music, trendy bars, gourmet restaurants and speciality shops are all part of the Bricktown scene.  Stroll along the canal or take a water taxi for the feel of Old World Venice.  The nearby Botanical Gardens offer a crystal bridge, blooming flowers, and much more.

Escape to one of the hideaways favored by infamous outlaws Bonnie and Clyde at Medicine Park in the southwest corner of the state.  Medicine Park today is a restored resort community with unique cobblestone buildings, cottages, bed-and-breakfasts, shops, and more.  Swim in the cool, healing waters or hole up in Bonnie and Clyde, one of many original cottages for rent.  At the foot of Mount Scott, the region's highest point, Medicine Park is a hidden treasure.  It's also adjacent to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge with over 60,000 open acres.  Deer, antelope and buffalo really do roam these acres.  For a real treat, try one of the famous hamburgers at Meer's Store in the tiny town of Meers nearby.

Get your kicks on Route 66 because the mother road and historic highway crosses Oklahoma in a diagonal line.  Many portions o the original road still exist and fans can travel through towns like Miami (don't miss the historic Coleman Theater), Claremore (home of the Will Rogers Memorial Museum and grave), Sayre, Weatherford and Elk City.  Take a trip off old 66 to Foyil to visit Totem Pole Park, an attraction from the highway's heyday. A 90 foot concrete totem pole dates to 1948 and other unique structures are on site.

Leave the country and head for the capital of the Cherokee Nation at Tahlequah.  Visit cultural and historical exhibits at the Cherokee Heritage Center.  Tour the Tsa-La-Gi ancient village or view the pageant tracing the story of the Trail of Tears each night in the summer season.  Visit nearby Lake Tenkiller or fish the Illinois River.  The surrounding Cookson Hills are lovely and rugged.

Experience the splendor of another age at Woolaroc, twelve miles of Bartlesville in the Osage Hills.  Once a getaway country home for petroleum millionaire Frank Phillips, Woolaroc offers an extensive museum and wildlife preserve.  

Dig for selenite crystals at the Great Salt Plains State Park or experience nature's majesty at Turner Falls near Davis.  Six thousand acres in the heart of the Arbuckle Mountains are the setting for a 77 foot waterfall, camping and resort cabins, hiking, swimming, fishing, and more.
