Discover the look and feel of a European town in Hermann, a German city in the Missouri Rhineland.  Settled by German immigrants along the banks of the mighty Missouri River, Hermann offers Old World Charm and more.  Choose from many delightful bed-and-breakfasts and local inns, each with its' own unique style.  Visit four local wineries and sample the fruit of the vine.  Enjoy a simple lunch at Hermanhof Winery and Vineyards, on the edge of town.  A national historic site since 1852, Hermanhof sells their wines along with homemade sausage and cheese.  Tour their cellars or those at Stone Hill Winery.

Stone Hill also features a gift shop and outstanding fine dining at their Vintage Restaurant.  Many local museums and historical sites add to the flavor along with German restaurants and much more.  In summer, the streets bloom with colorful flowers.

Escape into the world where Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer first came to life with a trip to Hannibal, a small Missouri town on the Mississippi River.  Situated along the hills that rise above the water, the small town retains a vintage charm.  Tour Mark Twain's Boyhood Home and Museum.  The site includes Becky Thatcher's home, a drug store, John Marshal Clemens law offices and more.  Another famous local resident was the unsinkable Molly Brown and her home is now the Molly Brown Birthplace and Museum.   Ride the Mark Twin riverboat that docks at the bottom of Center Street on a sightseeing or dinner cruise.  If you'd rather dine on land, try Logue's Family Restaurant for home cooked foods like turkey and spaghetti or Lula Belle's near the river.

Relax in Missouri's first permanent settlement at Ste. Genevieve in the southern part of the state.  Founded as early as 1725, Ste. Genevieve predates St. Louis and retains a distinct French flavor.  The Bolduc House is a rare remaining example of early French Colonial Mississippi Valley style homes.  Birds mounted by John James Audubon during his residence are a highlight of the Ste, Genevieve Museum.  Stay in one of the charming bed-and-breakfast inns such as The Inn St. Gemme Beauvais & Dr. Hertich's, Missouri's oldest bed-and-breakfast built in 1848 and 1850.

Dine at Old Brick, a restaurant housed in the first brick structure west of the Mississippi. Specialities of the house include fried chicken and coq au vin.  

Cross the broad waters of "the father of rivers" on the Ste. Genevieve-Modoc ferry that offers vehicle and passenger service to Illinois.

If bright lights and music suit your style, head for Branson.  Well-known as a family vacation spot, Branson's many shows offer something for adults alone.  Lodging choices range from the upscale Chateau on the Lake to chain hotels and budget motels.  Several bed-and-breakfast options are also scattered through the small town.  Silver Dollar City, a unique theme park and living museum can be fun for couples as well as families.

A romantic train trip might be the ticket on the Branson Scenic Railway.  A lovers tradition to walk the quiet paths to Point Lookout is long-standing at the College of the Ozarks two miles south of Branson on Highway 65.
