Looking for something to do in or around the Buffalo, NY area? Look no further as Buffalo offers some of the most exciting attractions around!
First and foremost, if it¡¯s football season head out to a Bills game at Bill¡¯s Stadium in Orchard Park. Now surely football isn¡¯t for everyone, but the Bills and Buffalonians make it so. Bring a cooler and a blanket to snuggle under and watch the pandemonium strike when the Bills score a touch down. Red and Blue face paint is optional.
During the winter months when hockey¡¯s at its peak, tickets to a Sabres game can beat any other plans for the evening. Pick up some light fare at any of the quality cafes around the Sabre¡¯s Stadium and then head over and find your seats. If you haven¡¯t eaten grab a hot dog and grab some hot chocolate and enjoy Buffalo¡¯s (second) favorite team play their hearts out.
For the non-professional sports lovers the Bisons, Buffalo¡¯s minor league baseball team, make for a great outing. During their season, every Friday features fireworks after the game, and the Bison Boys will usually be out and about signing autographs and taking pictures. Cheer your heart out on your first, second or 50th game, because tickets are cheap (at about $10 ¨C 15) so you can keep coming back to support the hometown heroes.
If you¡¯re not into the whole sports scene but still want to go somewhere outdoors, why not support the local Zoo? Buffalo¡¯s Zoological Gardens features polar bears, penguins, giraffes, monkeys and BUFFALO! Perfect for a leisurely day in the sun, stroll through the various sections of the gardens watching curious chimps speculate, hungry hippos yawn lazily and giant cockroaches sun themselves in the insectarium. Complete with petting zoo featuring bouncing baby deer and goats, the zoo is a perfect destination for anyone looking to spend some time with the animals.
After all that animal-watching, you¡¯re sure to be hungry. Make sure you pack a picnic lunch and stroll out from the zoo premises into Delaware Park. This lush, large, scenic park is nestled next to the bustling artsy street of Elmwood Ave and is a popular spot for rollerblading, baby strolling and dog walking. Complete with large shade-giving trees, a picnic in the park could complete the perfect quiet day filled with reading, writing or thinking. Bring along your bike if you¡¯re interested in getting some exercise
For an evening out, pick up tickets to any of Shea¡¯s Performing Arts Center¡¯s on-going plays, musicals and music performances. Drawing in off-Broadway hits and some of the nation¡¯s best musical acts, Shea¡¯s is a popular destination of the city. Every Sunday during the summer months, Shea¡¯s shows classic movies (think Ghostbusters, The Birds or The Breakfast Club) complete with free popcorn during the day. If you¡¯re finding you need a little light laughter, head into the balcony, get comfortable and watch as Molly Ringwald looks about 3 stories tall.
For some outdoor entertainment, Delaware Park features Shakespeare in the Park during the summer months and offers up two plays every season. Situated well into the park, vendors sell snack foods and souvenirs, but simply bring a blanket and a picnic of your own and get ready for a well-rehearsed, well-acted evening of entertainment. This is free to the public and is funded by donations.
Finally, if you¡¯re looking for a smaller night out, hit up the Tralfamadore Caf¨¦ for an easy night of Jazz, Folk, or Acoustic live music from local, regional and national musicians. A hot spot in Buffalo, the Tralf has an extensive cocktail/drink menu. With ambient, smoky-bar atmosphere (but don¡¯t worry, NY is smokefree!) it¡¯s the perfect late night excursion.
