Biloxi, an Indian word for "The First People," was incorporated as a town in 1838 and has the museums and antebellum homes to prove it.  This part of the "Southern Riviera" is rich in cultural history, mixing Spanish, French, Slovac, Cajun and Vietnamese with English and Native American cultures to form a unique community.  You can stroll through historic parts of town on self-guided tours and visit museums on every subject from shrimping to mardi gras.  Many of the historic homes on the tours have been restored to pre-civil war glory and beauty.  The foliage includes everything from dogwood trees to lush weeping willows.  The birds, from blue heron to swans to egrets to cardinals sing year round a sweet, tropical chorus.  There are art museums and those dedicated to the illustration of southern life in both the pre and post civil war eras.

     If beaches are more your thing, you have 26 miles of white sand to choose from.  Because of the five barrier islands, the surf along this gulf coast shoreline is pretty mellow.  You can lie all day, soaking up the sun's rays and playing in the water by your beachfront hotel or bed and breakfast.  If  those bigger waves are calling you, charter boats are available to get you out to one of the beautiful islands where the surf offers more of a challenge.

Speaking of chartering, you can charter a boat for everything from sailing to para-sailing to deep sea fishing.  Local business rent aqua-cycles, jet skis, and wave runners along with bumming it on the beach equipment like chairs and umbrellas.  You want drinks?  How about seafood or ice cream?  They have that too.  Golfers will find plenty of action on the links in Biloxi.     There are, of course the requisite shopping malls and lots of antique and souvenir shops.  

For those looking for a togetherness rush, how about sky-diving?  Several skydiving schools offer weekend classes with the opportunity to jump that very same afternoon.  Tandem jumps are available.  There is even a nearby race track that offers dirt track action.

Whatever your choice for day time activities, the night life in Biloxi offers almost anything you could want.  Casual restaurants or fine dining.  Italian, Mexican, Asian, French and, of course, American cuisine are all available for your consumption.  Many of these restaurants are family owned and operated and the food authentically prepared.  If your taste runs more to regional or national food chains, there are plenty of these restaurants as well. After dinner, choose from one of several casinos, either on land or floating in the gulf, and top off your day with gambling or a top of the line show.
