When people travel, even one state over, the first thing everyone wants when they find out you¡¯re going is to have you bring them back a souvenir. One of the most popular souvenirs to bring back from any vacation is a shirt with the state or country name. Whether it¡¯s a tee shirt or jersey, many people who are unable to travel, for whatever reason, simply don¡¯t get the opportunity to purchase that type of merchandise. Other items that have one of the 50 state names, or the name of a foreign country, such as plates, salt and pepper shakers or ashtrays, are very popular souvenirs. Area shops are usually full of caps, plates, scarves, bandanas, pens and other trinkets bearing the name ¡°Texas¡±.
The souvenir doesn¡¯t necessarily have to bear the state¡¯s name. It can have the name of a famous town, like El Paso, a one-time event, or a picture of something that is unique to the area. When traveling to Texas, this might include the Astrodome in Houston, Corpus Christi, The Alamo or another historic site.
Brochures from the region depicting local events, special concerts, area attractions, specific tours and such are great scrap book items. So are copies of menus, newspapers, books with topics concerning the area, ticket stubs, and receipts for local purchases.
Small collectibles with a picture of the state map, a large star, and other recognizable Texas emblems, such as, small flags, key rings, book markers, coffee mugs, bumper stickers and magnets are good souvenirs for just about anyone.
Gift baskets containing salsa from the south, chili mix, barbecue sauce, hot sauce and other Texas cuisine are nice gifts or souvenirs for anyone who likes the spicy foods Texas is known for serving.
Stuffed animals and dolls, dressed in Texan garb, particularly ones that say ¡°Texas¡± are good kids¡¯ souvenirs. Backpacks with the state flag, candy bars with ¡°Texas¡± wrappers, and bean bags with Texas state colors are also loved by kids.
Very unique gifts, like sunglasses shaped like Texas, beer can clocks, Texas toilet paper, and plaques with Texas sayings are whimsical and rare. These are items that you¡¯ll never find anywhere else. Things that simply aren¡¯t seen anywhere else in the world are a good choice in a souvenir.
Genuine pottery from the area, real spurs that say ¡°Texas¡±, steer heads, boots and other clothing made in the area are good selections as well.
In most souvenir shops you¡¯ll find different items from the ones you saw at the last place. Aprons, clocks, pillows, rattles from rattlesnakes, ceramic boots, totes, desk sets, rugs, soaps, address books, coasters, figurines, playing cards, license plates, badges, or trash cans shaped like oil drums are some of the unique things you¡¯ll find from shop to shop.
Souvenirs for someone who has everything might include a stuffed armadillo, a Texas mouse pad, a Texas mailbox, genuine Republic of Texas currency from the 1800's, framed artwork, a cowboy hat, or a trailer hitch cap. Texas-shaped candles, a checkbook cover, cell phone case, a serving tray or notepads are inexpensive and will please anyone wanting a Texas souvenir. A Texas flag puzzle, or ice cube trays that make Texas-shaped ice are other unique choices.
