The Orlando and Kissimmee area is well known for many things and one of those things happens to be an abundance of dinner theaters and themed meals. These are not intended to be meals that are quickly finished, and by the time dinner and the show is over, be prepared to spend most of an evening enjoying the food and entertainment. Costs for the meal and show generally run from $40 to $55 per ticket with some less and some slightly more.
Very many attractions in this area offer coupons to travelers in local coupon books or via printed coupons that can be downloaded from the internet. These are often available in machines by the side of the road. Many of the themed dinner theaters offer discounts, so be sure to check into a possible discount on your show and meal. It is necessary or at least very wise at best, to make reservations in advance for attending any of these dinner shows. They tend to fill up quickly at any time of the year. Be sure to ask about a vegetarian substitute for dinner when you call for reservations if that is your choice. Most of these places offer that alternative.
For a country type of dinner show with more than thirty horses and a four-course meal, try Dixie Stampede. This dinner theater is owned by and was created by Dolly Parton. There is seating for a thousand people and ticket price includes the meal (chicken and pork for main dish, soup, sides, dessert), the show, and pre-show entertainment. The pre-show starts an hour before the main show. Dixie Stampede offers a special Christmas show complete with elves, Santa, the three kings on camels, and a live nativity scene.
The Arabian Nights Dinner Theater offers a show that is like a fairy tale acted out on horseback. The horses are brought in from around the world. The show first opened in 1988. Your main meal will be Prime Rib, Chicken, or Vegetable lasagna for a meatless meal. Side dishes are served, of course, as is the case with all the dinner theater meals. A different touch at this show is that your dessert will be a slice of the princess's wedding cake. Arabian Nights is the biggest indoor equestrian arena that houses a permanent show in the world.
Ahoy, Matey. If you would like to take in a dinner theater that the whole family will enjoy, try the Pirate's Dinner Adventure. Ticket price includes pre-show, main show, and buffet meal. Even the appetizers are served buffet style here. Your meal will consist of courses from bread to dessert and main course choice will be chicken or beef. The stage for the Broadway type show is the set of a pirate's galleon. Guests will be "held hostage" with Princess Anita and when the show and meal are over, don't forget to check out the fun at the "Buccaneer Bash" party where guests can mingle with the cast.
Your dinner will be spent watching knights in shining armor battling it out in a tournament if you choose the Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament. Your bill of fare for this trip back to the Middle Ages will start with bread and soup, continue through meats and vegetables, and end with pastry. Appearing in the live show are beautiful Andalusian Stallions.
Sleuths Mystery Dinner Show has been in operation since 1980. Eleven different plays are given with murder mysteries for the guests to solve. The play you see will depend on when you attend the show. Each play starts with the guests getting to know the cast members over appetizers, salad, and drinks. Guests will then discuss the clues over dinner and then question the cast members (those who are still living!). Your entree will be Cornish game hen, prime rib, or lasagna and the meal ends with a mystery dessert. Sleuths also offers two different shows for children with their Merry Mystery Dinner Adventures.
If you are in the mood for an Italian meal and a trip back to the 1930s era Chicago complete with gangsters, stop by Al Capone's Dinner and Show. The audience becomes a part of the show at this speakeasy. Enjoy an Italian buffet that includes many of "Mama Capone's" specialties. This includes many Italian entrees as well as meats such as ham and chicken, and side dishes. Dessert is included.
The Orlando Broadway Dinner Theater was formerly known as Mark Two. The Broadway shows are exceptional at the Dinner Theater, as is the buffet dinner that includes not only prime rib and ham, but seafood newburg, coq au vin, fish, and many sides. The meal begins with salad and ends with a dessert bar. Shows here are on a different schedule than most of the other theaters. Matinees are performed on Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday and the evening shows are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Earlier Twilight Shows are given on Sunday. |
