Traveling in Ohio can give you many different views of the local culture. Small enough to drive cross-state within a few hours, it provides locals and tourists alike with many different types of scenery. Heading to the north will give you the lake-front atmosphere, while heading south will give you the hilly terrain near the river. Ohio has everything in between as well, such as farmland, big and small cities, and the quintessential small laid-back town.  

Columbus is the largest city in Ohio, and the fifteenth largest in the United States. It is headquarters to national corporations as well as the center for many cultural activities. A day trip to Columbus can provide you with a day of shopping in the many malls and outlets. As the state capital, it also has some of Ohio¡¯s best historical sights and scenery.  Make the short trek to Ohio State University, home of the Buckeyes, and a beautiful campus.

Also in Columbus is the French Market and German Village. The French Market is a collection of small specialty shops with collectibles, local pieces of work and a number of small restaurants. 

Heading to the north you¡¯ll find Cleveland where you¡¯ll find many different things. Here you can visit the Cleveland Cultural Gardens, the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center and the International Women¡¯s Air and Space Museum.  A tribute to women¡¯s contributions to aviation and space, it is located at Burke Lakefront Airport, in Cleveland, Ohio. 

If a thrill is more your style, visit Paramount¡¯s Kings Island, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Complete with roller coasters, a kiddie¡¯s park, and themed entertainment, it will keep you busy all day. It is home to the roller coaster, The Beast, one of the oldest wooden roller coasters in the world. If that¡¯s too much, try the scaled down version, The Beastie.  Grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants available. 

Take a trip over to Ohio University, in Athens, Ohio. Known as Ohio¡¯s first University, it was founded in 1804. Go during fall to catch some college football, and enjoy the beautiful changing of the fall foliage. Athens is a quaint old town with a public area, or common in the center of campus that creates a short cut to the different parts of campus. Stroll among the winding brick streets and old brick buildings that house many of the college¡¯s classes and students. As most college towns, it has just about anything to whet your appetite. 

Traveling into Eastern Ohio towards Pennsylvania will put you into the heart of Amish Country. Mostly farmland to celebrate their simple lifestyle, here and there you can find a few restaurants and craft shops. Stop and have a bite to eat ¨C the way the food is prepared is amazing. The Amish are said to make the best furniture, as it¡¯s all made by hand of solid wood and without power tools. Stepping back to a slower pace is sometimes just what you need. 

Ohio has something to offer everyone for a day trip, whether you are looking to enjoy the outdoors, a day of thrills, a few good restaurants, or a day of shopping.
