San Diego is home to many beautiful lakes that are stocked full of various types of fish. Lake Barrett, which is located east of San Diego, has only been considered a good fishing area since the mid 1990¡¯s. The waters of Lake Morena are always stocked with trout because this lake is nestled among the Laguna Mountains¡¯ foothills. There are also crappie, bass, and catfish. You can fish along several miles of the lake¡¯s shores. There are plenty of perfect fishing holes that find their homes along the rocks and ledges. One of the closest lakes to San Diego is Lake Murray. Here the bass are said to be huge and often plentiful. You can fish from the bank here every day of the week, but only certain days are designated for boat fishing.
Another great family destination that is close to San Diego is the Santee Lakes area. Private boats aren¡¯t permitted here, but there are several different types of boats available for rent. There are camping facilities and recreational areas that include volleyball courts and picnic areas.
The lakes surrounding San Diego aren¡¯t the only waters to offer excellent fishing opportunities. The San Diego bays are a fisherman¡¯s dream. San Diego Harbor and Mission Bay are wonderful places to cast your bait. You can fish from the shore, wade into the waters, or fish by boat, and all you really need is some light tackle. The most common fish found in these waters include halibut, bonito, barracuda, sand bass and White Sea bass.
San Diego¡¯s coast line is famous for its great sport fishing. Because the waters off of San Diego are close to the warm currents running from the south, you can find an abundance of fish here. Yellow fin tuna and rock cod are popular fish, and this area has the world¡¯s largest sport fishing fleet. You can charter a boat for partial day trips to week long trips.
Charter boats out of San Diego can take you to a variety of places. Some of these include the Coronado Islands and the Baja area. In these waters you can find yellow tail, calico bass, and cod, along with several other species. With all of the wonderful lakes and beautiful coastline available to anglers, San Diego has earned the reputation as a hot spot among fishermen. Whether you prefer freshwater or saltwater fishing, San Diego is the perfect place to visit. |
