Montana is a beautiful state to visit at any time of the year.  There are winter activities and summer fun to keep any couple entertained.  Montana is ideal for the romantic getaway.  The entire state is dotted with romantic bed and breakfasts and secluded cabins.  Dining options abound, or you can cook your own over a crackling campfire in one of Montana¡¯s gorgeous national parks.  The activities are plentiful, whether you choose to go out or stay in!

     Glacier National Park is one of Montana¡¯s best attractions.  There is so much to see and do that you could not possibly do it all.  The park has over 700 miles of trails.  These trails range from easy to downright difficult.  The park is full of great wildlife, so keep that camera ready to snap a picture of your honey frolicking with mountain goats or spotting a bear (from a safe distance, of course!) 

     The park offers some great options for overnight stays.  The Glacier Park Lodge is absolutely gorgeous and brings to mind Swiss chalets.  Or you can choose to cozy it up in one of the area cabins.  Advanced reservations for both of these choices are highly recommended.  If you would prefer something a little more rustic and a lot cheaper, the park has many campgrounds in which to pitch your tent or park your RV.

     Two activities not to miss in the park are a boat cruise on one of several lakes and a drive on the Going To The Sun Road.  The glacial lakes are beautiful and the cruises are affordable and fun.  The guides provide some great information and can point out many items of interest while lazily schlepping you around the lake.  

     The most famous road in Montana is the Going To The Sun Road, so named because it appears that you will drive directly into the sky.  Along the way are many places you will want to stop and look around or take a short hike.  The Weeping Wall is magnificent, and so are the glaciers and cedar forest.  The road is only open seasonally, in the summer months.

     If you want to slip away for some culture, consider going to Kalispell, located not far from the park.  It is a pretty little town with great food and lodging options.  Things to do in Kalispell include a tour of the Norman-style Conrad Mansion with tiffany windows and opulent gardens, and the nightlife includes summer productions of Shakespeare in the Park and the Glacier Symphony and Chorale, which perform to sold-out crowds.

     If the history and fun of the Wild West is more to your tastes, consider a visit to Virginia City.  Located in the southern part of the state, it is a great ghost town with lots to do and see.  The town is full of shops and old buildings that have been restored to their 1890¡¯s glory.  Experience life in the gold-rush era!

     Take a ride on the Alder Gulch Short Line, a steam locomotive ride to the nearby ghost town of Nevada City.  The ride has beautiful scenery and is very relaxing.  Or you can go to the nearby Alder Gem mine and search for garnets for your sweetie, which is a lot more strenuous and you will definitely get dirty.  But hey, isn¡¯t a deep red garnet worth it?  

     If you decide to stay in one of the many interesting and historic inns, you can sample some great beer at the H.S. Gilbert Brewery in Virginia City.  At night, attend the Brewery Follies, which is a slightly risqu¨¦ burlesque type show.  Who said the Wild West wasn¡¯t romantic? 

     If winter fare is what you like, Montana has quite a few ski resorts to choose from.  They offer everything from downhill and cross-country skiing to snowmobiling and dogsledding.  Each resort has something to recommend it, and you will not find better skiing.  

     The Discovery Ski area is located 90 miles east of Missoula, and offers uncrowded slopes, great powder, moguls, and some of the best double black diamond runs for the adrenaline junkie in you or your significant other.  The day lodge offers gourmet food and drink, and when done skiing for the day, you can slip down to the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort and relax tired muscles in one of their hot pools and enjoy their top-class hospitality.
