Excellent local restaurants are so numerous in San Jose that it would be safer to merely list a representative sample! The area¡¯s economy is fortunately doing so well that the demand for fine eating places grows by the day. It is not just gourmet dining; even a simple sandwich can be a treat in this culturally rich culinary haven.

San Jose weighs heavily in favor of European cuisine. The Bella Mia is in a building that is over 100 years old and whether you are seated at the patio or inside, including in one of booths, the charming ambience grows on you even before the attentive service is by your side. The menu is strongly Italian with appetizers, pasta, grilled meat and desserts. This restaurant has been voted as a favorite and you will close your meal with agreement on the common verdict. The Caf¨¦ Prima Vera on Lincoln Avenue is similar to the Bella Mia for dinner, but has salads, quiches and lasagnas that you can choose from a show case for a quick but delicious and filling lunch. Emile¡¯s goes a step northwards of Italy with Swiss and French accents to the Italian variety. The owner likes to teach cooking and is known for team building courses as well. The Germania has a site and location advantage to go with its menu of food and beer from all over the Fatherland. It is housed where the city¡¯s symphony first performed. Le Papillon on Saratoga Avenue serves not just the best French cuisine, but is set in scenic and verdant surroundings. The menu changes every month and you can opt for a tasting combination as well.  

Scott¡¯s Seafood Bar and Grill has everything going for it! Situated near major hotels the Convention Center and the Center for the Performing Arts, the restaurant has elegant decor, courteous service and a panoramic view of San Jose. The Chef is incredibly talented and presents all kinds of seafood with verve and imagination. The desserts are divine and the perfect match for the preceding parts of your meal. 

Though Blake¡¯s on N. San Pedro Square has some options that are not based on beef, it is a steak specialty house with a variety of cuts wood-grilled to near-perfection. The starters are effective in stirring your appetite and a fine wine with salad and home bread, will make your meal an extended pleasure. The desserts include Cheesecake and pies and you should keep time to spend some time at the friendly bar later.

The California Sushi on E. San Fernando Street has a misleading name though it does indeed serve excellent Sushi. The name is not complete because it also has an authentic Japanese dining area replete with shoji screens, tofu salads and tempura. California is rich in Japanese cuisine but the California Sushi can keep its place at the top with the very best. 

Aqui has patio seating as well as tables inside. The menu is Mexican in origin with a Texan slant. Cooking methods stress good health though portions are enormous. Each plate has been planned with ingenuity and you can count on the Chef to present you with a visual delight. 

Eulipia is a good choice for those who want the best entertainment with gourmet food. Poetry, readings and soothing music go with banquet-standard fare. The Camera Caf¨¦ is another such place with a more casual setting. Watch a favorite film or one that you have always wanted to see, over a salad and a sandwich. Listen to poetry over a glass of wine or indulge in some fun beer tasting. The Camera Caf¨¦ is a happening place and you get much more than a meal. 

Breweries are great places for a meal on a hot summer¡¯s day, for they give you good reason to sample the house beer in all its variety. The Gordon Biersch is one such place, where delicious fries and succulent meat are driven to the backseat of your memory by tall glasses of refreshing lager brewed on the spot. 

Now for a spot of Americana go to Henry¡¯s on W. St. John Street. You will love it especially if you have not seen a Western of late, for the ambience is so like that of a place from the Wild West. The short and simple meaty menu is carved on wood and displayed on the wall. You get a drink at the bar and are tabled as soon as your plates are ready. The ancient juke box keeps you lively company as you attack the enormous amounts of food put before you. No one to date could handle the portions, so the Management wastes no time on dessert! A visitor from abroad could enjoy a meal experience here, most of all. 

The city¡¯s sizeable migrants from Vietnam have brought their delightful food habits to San Jose. The short drive from downtown to Khanh¡¯s in the Town and Country Village is worthwhile for the best selections of eats from the far-off land. You will generally find a number of Vietnamese eating here, which is proof before you order that this is the real thing!

The Royal Taj serves selections from India with sitar music in the background. Ask the server for help if you are not entirely familiar with the cuisine, for India is a sub-continent with a dazzling array of spices to dress meat and vegetarian fare as well. Taiwan on Lincoln Avenue, takes you further East with Chinese favorites and some creative dishes that you would not have enjoyed before. There are fortune cookies to end your meal in traditional manner!

It would help if visitors would stay in San Jose for as many days and nights as possible, for one can do no justice to the sheer weight of the most outstanding restaurants in this compact city! It may be claimed with confidence that the most delectable meal experiences will highlight every San Jose visit and you will be left envying residents!
