A BRANSON VACATION
Branson is the Live Country Music Capitol of the World, a destination unlike any other. You can shop at the many outlets, go to famous theme parks, see a live entertainment show, or fish at one of the three surrounding lakes. There is plenty to do whether you are interested in country music or not. Branson is surrounded by the beautiful Ozark Mountains and is nestled among the many lakes and hills. There are plenty of bed and breakfasts for couples or fancy hotels for the more modern guests. Drive around Branson or Ride the Ducks, an 80 minute ride on land and in water all over Branson!
A favorite place of mine in Branson is The Dixie Stampede. It is Dolly Parton¡¯s world renowned horse show/rodeo. The show features a 35,000 square foot covered arena that seats 1,000 guests. There is a battle between the North and South, which is each side of the arena. Dixie Stampede employees ride beautiful horses, race ostriches, and serve a four-course meal anyone could love. There are plenty of great shows that feature a meal and are normally open year round. Some very famous shows in Branson are The Gatlin Brothers, and Ray Stevens Comedy. There are also many young stars that have their own show in Branson, as well as family shows like the Brett Family. You can have breakfast with Normal Rockwell and Mark Twain and lunch with Hank Williams. Brett Williams Magic & Beyond is an amazing show at Branson¡¯s Grand Palace. He makes a jet disappear right in front of you. Magic & Beyond is a huge multi-million dollar show in Branson.
The Showboat Branson Belle takes off from the White River Landing and cruises to Table Rock Lake three time daily. While you cruise you can listen to live music and eat a three-course meal. Another absolutely amazing show is The Shepherd of the Hills Outdoor Drama. It is the story of the Ozarks and has been in Branson since the 1960¡¯s. Generation after generation visits this show every year.
There are about twenty different museums in Branson. A favorite is the Ripley¡¯s Believe It Or Not Museum, featuring very unusual exhibits and strange people all year long. It is definitely the most photographed building in Branson, because it is a building that is made to look like it has been split by an earthquake. It looks like it is about to fall apart. It is very strange looking and is supposed to depict the world¡¯s worst earthquake ever that occurred. It was in Missouri in 1812 and an 8.0 on the Richter scale. The Veterans Memorial Museum is a great place to learn about war heroes of the 20th century. It has over 2000 exhibits and can be found on Branson¡¯s Hwy. 76. The Wonders of Wildlife Exhibit is another favorite. It has over 250 animals, indoors but in their own natural habitat exhibit. The Hollywood Wax Museum is legendary for its recreation of celebrities, old and new. The museum is two stories and features almost 200 wax stars.
The world famous theme park in Branson, Silver Dollar City, is a great place to spend the day. The park is an 1800s style setup with modern day rides and roller coasters. There are year round festivals, unique gift shops, and old-world demonstration crafts.
Its sister park, Celebration City, is the place to be after dark in Branson. There are rides, laser light shows, a dance floor, and a karaoke contest. There is nothing like the laser light show that begins nightly at 9:30. Silver Dollar City is also a partner of The Grand Village, located on Hwy. 76, boasts a plethora of stores and the famous Hard Luck Diner. The Grand Village also contains the largest Christmas store in Missouri, Kringles.
For a great summer day in Branson there is always ¡°the beach within reach,¡± or White Water. There are plenty of fast rides and big slides. Raging River Rapids is the wildest plunge in Branson. There are two slides that wrap around a five-story waterfall with a 400 foot plunge! Parents can rent the family a Cool Cabana and relax with fans, TV, and private seating.
Whatever you choose to do in Branson you are sure to have a blast. There is definitely something for everyone! A trip to the Ozarks with family or your sweetheart is just a day away from half of the USA and is well worth the drive to get there¡ |
