Ah, to be young and in love”­and in Las Vegas! Sin City, the city that never sleeps, is an amazing place where couples can eat, drink, dance, play, and even wed. 

If you and your beloved are planning a trip to Las Vegas, this article offers some suggestions for can't-miss activities and sights.

1. HIT THE CASINOS”­TOGETHER

When some couples gamble, they divvy up the money, head off in different directions and don't see each other again until they're both broke and tired. Bad for the wallets, bad for the romance. 

Instead, why not find games you can play together? Pick your favorite themed slot machines and play side by side. Or, take a couple of lessons and brave the table games. Before joining a table, watch the game for a minute or two to make sure you understand the rules and to get a "feel" for the table. If you and your partner want to banter, you don't want to get stuck at a table with serious gamblers who will resent the "disturbance."

Another possibility for couples' gambling is the Race and Sports Book where you can kick back, have a couple of drinks, and test your wits and knowledge of your favorite teams against the professional handicappers.

When you're gambling, just remember it's all about fun. It's not a get-rich-quick scheme. Those beautiful hotels were not built on your winnings. Gamble only what you can afford to lose and then stop and move on to something else. After all, there's plenty more to do in Las Vegas.

2. EAT

Forget the days of cheapie buffets and steak the consistency of rubber. Vegas has attracted some of the finest culinary talents in the world. Almost every resort and casino on the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard) offers gourmet dining. If you and your beloved are art lovers, you can't miss Picasso's at Bellagio which offers French-Mediterranean cuisine to eat and original Picasso paintings to view. Other good bets include Elements at the Aladdin (steak and seafood) and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at the Paris Las Vegas (French cuisine).

Don't want to spend your life savings on a single meal? That's okay, too. Several charming restaurants offer fair prices and huge quantities of food. For an intimate atmosphere and tasty Italian fare, check out Market City Cafe at the Monte Carlo. Buffet lovers need to take a spin by the Spice Market Buffet at the Aladdin. 

3. DRINK

No, I don't mean get drunk. I mean have a quiet drink together in one of Las Vegas's many themed bars or lounges. Red Square at Mandalay Bay is a must for vodka connoisseurs, while Nine Fine Irishmen at New York, New York is perfect for couples who enjoy a friendly, laid-back pub atmosphere. 

More adventurous couples may want to visit Shadows Bar at Caesars Palace, where backlit dancers perform seductive moves nightly. For sheer class, check out Caramel at the Bellagio.

4. SEE THE WORLD 

If you and your beloved ever dreamed of having breakfast in Paris, riding a gondola to an intimate Venetian restaurant for lunch, shopping at a Moroccan bazaar in the afternoon, exploring King Tut's tomb before dinner, and partying at Studio 54 into the wee hours of the morning, Vegas is the city for you.

The Eiffel Tower at the Paris Las Vegas is built at exactly half the scale of its counterpart in Paris, France. The Eiffel Tower Experience allows visitors to take an elevator to the top of the tower and admire Las Vegas from over four-hundred feet above ground. The fee isn't cheap, but the view is spectacular, especially at night. And since the desert breezes can be a little chilly, you'll have the perfect excuse to snuggle up with your beloved on the observation tower.

Any couple with an ounce of romantic sense won't be able to pass up the gondola rides at the Venetian. If you're lucky, the gondolier will serenade you as you float along. And since it's all inside, you'll never have to worry about the weather.

Finally, if you're a history buff, exploring the Tomb and Museum of King Tutankhamun at the Luxor is a fun way to pass some time. You'll get to see an authentic reproduction of Tut's Tomb, just as it looked when it was discovered in 1922. Don't expect to hear too much about mummy's curses, though. No casino wants to start patrons thinking about bad luck!

5. EXPERIENCE NATURE

The Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam are only a day trip away from Vegas. Many couples plan sightseeing and hiking tours when the glitz and glamour of the city gets to be a bit much. 

Nature lovers who don't want to leave town can visit the Secret Garden of Siegfried and Roy and the Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. Visitors can see the beautiful, mysterious white lions and tigers, as well as other animal species. 

Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is a full-size aquarium. Built around the theme of a sunken treasure ship, it features an amazing variety of sea life. Touchy-feely types will enjoy gently stroking the stingrays. 

Finally, if your thing is more flora than fauna take a stroll around Bellagio's Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. The lovely plants and flowers are a perfect backdrop for romance. And better yet, it's free. 

6. SEE A SHOW

Vegas offers the full continuum of entertainment, from pure class to rock bottom sleaze. Couples willing to shell out the money can purchase a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see big names in music and comedy. For far less, you can see new faces that may--or may not--be on their way to the top.

The popular Cirque du Soleil has a strong presence in Las Vegas, from the sweet, childlike Mystere (playing at TI, formerly Treasure Island at the Mirage) to the dazzling, erotic Zumanity (playing at New York, New York). 

Couples wanting a more traditional Las Vegas experience should see the long running Jubilee playing at Bally's or Splash playing at the Riviera. 

Finally, couples looking for something a little spicier might consider a topless review such as Midnight Fantasy at the Luxor or Showgirls of Magic at San Remo.

7. PARTY HEARTY

Las Vegas has nightclubs to suit every taste, from the stylistic otherworldly ghostbar at the Palms to the earthy, tropical rumjungle at Mandalay Bay. 

Film buffs and fans of 70s New York may want to give Studio 54 at MGM Grand a try out of sheer curiosity. If you're seriously into dancing, bump RA at the Luxor to the top of your list.  

A word to the wise: even in Sin City, driving under the influence is a crime--and being arrested is not a fun couples' activity. If drinking is part of your party scene, plan to take a taxi back to the hotel.

8. GET MARRIED

Britney Spears did it. (Sort of.) So did Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. If you and your beloved are ready to tie the knot, why not consider a Vegas wedding? 

All you have to do is apply for a marriage license at the Clark County Courthouse. Hours are from 8 a.m. to midnight, open 24 hours on holidays. There's no waiting period and no blood test. Unfortunately, same sex couples cannot legally marry in the state of Nevada, although some chapels will perform commitment ceremonies.  

Once you have your marriage license, the sky's the limit. You can be married by an Elvis impersonator, or if you prefer, by a Starfleet Officer (at Star Trek: The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton).

If you're not picky about where you get married, you should have no trouble finding a twenty-four hour chapel that will gladly do the honors. However, if you  have your heart set on a special ceremony, it's better to plan ahead and make reservations.
