Los Angeles has some of the best restaurants in the United States. Along with a wide variety of choices of cuisine, Los Angeles restaurants have great atmosphere and an opportunity to star gaze and eat at the same time.
One of the oddest combinations and no-frills favorites in Los Angeles is Roscoe¡¯s Chicken & Waffles. There are multiple locations with their Hollywood location (1514 N. Gower Street) being the favorite, since you are sure to see a movie star or two. Their fried chicken is down home and inexpensive complimented surprisingly by some of the best waffles anywhere. Their iced tea is also the sweet and tasty.
G Garvin¡¯s (8420 West 3rd Street, Los Angeles) is a small but delicious choice. The chef (star of TV One¡¯s ¨C Turn up the Heat) cooks the tastiest dishes like Chilean sea bass and Maryland crab cakes. The ahi tuna tartare salad is a must-try, too.
One of the newer hot spots for great food is Chi (8401 Sunset Boulevard) in West Hollywood. It is co-owned by Justin Timberlake. Even though they specialize in Asian cuisine you can get plate-sized blueberry pancakes with gourmet turkey sausage for breakfast. It¡¯s closed for lunch and re-opens for dinner with dim sum and all-star favorites like basted lobster, pulled pork and apple spring rolls for dessert.
The Little Door (8164 West Third Street, Los Angeles) is hard to find, especially if you are not familiar with Los Angeles. There is no sign and it doesn¡¯t need one. They are packed by reputation and clientele alone. Without a reservation you might not be able to get in this French and Mediterranean eatery. There is a large outdoor patio and bar and the menu changes every month. However, you can always expect delectable appetizers and salads and a fantastic wine bar.
For a great meal with a 360-degree view, Windows (1150 S. Olive Street, Trans America Building, 32nd Floor, Los Angeles) is the place to go. The atmosphere is romantic, classy and breathtaking and the food scrumptious. The duck ravioli and bacon-wrapped filet mignon are ideal choices for first-timers. There is a full bar and live music most nights.
A Los Angeles all around winner for celebrities and everyone else is Spago (176 N. Canon Drive, Beverly Hills). You will be seduced by the gorgeous design as well as the food. There are Wolfgang Puck classics like salmon- and caviar-crowned pizzas and Sonoma baby lamb with braised greens and rosemary. The desserts are equally exquisite with choices like peach- and apricot-infused tarts.
If you have a taste for Mexican food, you must go to El Cholo (1121 S. Western Ave.
Los Angeles). The family atmosphere at El Cholo is far from the glitz of its Hollywood counterparts, but a star when it comes to Margarita¡¯s. Some come for the drinks alone. The combination platters are winners, along with their signature green corn tamales.
Let¡¯s not forget about the burgers. With multiple locations all over Los Angeles, In-N-Out is number one for a reason. Their food is always fresh and cooked to order, even those it is considered ¡°fast food¡±. Everything on the menu is inexpensive. The buns are toasted, the shakes are made with real milk and the fries are fresh cut and never frozen. In fact, none of their food is ever frozen and it shows in the flavor of their food. The long lines are a tale-tell sign, too. Their special sauce is really special. Don¡¯t try a double-double without it!
